Balm Chicky Balm Balm Review and Giveaway!

{Press Sample}

Balm Chicky Balm Balm sent me some of their lip moisturizers to show you and to give away! They are also going to be presenting on Shark Tank this Tuesday, February 3rd!!! I know I’m going to want to watch! I’ve always enjoyed that show and I know I’ll enjoy it 10-fold when I actually know one of the products!! (Am I the only one who gets SSUUUPER excited when she sees a Shark Tank product in the store in real life??)

The first thing that struck me about Balm Chicky Balm Balm was their great packaging and hilarious names. They are updating their packaging slightly from the press samples I was sent, but I have no doubt that it will be just as appealing! (You can see press photos of the new packaging below.)

One of the many things that makes Balm Chicky unique is their “friend end”. What is the “Friend End“, you ask? Well it means that both ends of the balm open! The flip side is the side you can share with your friend so you can share balm and not germs! The other end has a cap that pops off like traditional lip balm!

Look at all my friend ends! That sounds a little risque…

Balm Chicky goes on smoothly and the flavors are very light. Sometimes I’ve found that lip balm flavors can be overpowering, but not in this case! They are subtle so you can use them without fear of bothering your coworkers or spouse. Well, you might bother them a little…but only because they’re jealous of your super awesome balm.

Here’s Juicy Melon showing you both ends open! Balm Chicky gives you three times the product of traditional lip balms!!

Want some of your own Balm Chicky?? Enter this giveaway and the winner will receive two Balm Chicky balms in their choice of flavors!!

Born Pretty Store Plate BP-04 Review

{Press Sample}

I was sent Born Pretty Store Plate 04 to show you some of the designs and to review for you! I picked this plate because I was drawn to the peacock designs. You can see all their available image plates here: BornPrettyStore Stamping Image Plates

Dancing Peacoak Theme Nail Art Stamp Template Image Plate BORN PRETTY 04

I like the idea and look of this plate, but I don’t think my nails are the right size and shape. You don’t really get the peacock vibe from this mani.

I think the mani looks kinda cool in an artsy way, but I wish you could see more of the peacock. But, oh well! There are a few other designs on the plate that will be fun to try!

Thanks again to BPS for sending me these to review! You can find these supplies and more in the nail art section of the Born Pretty Store. Use code FYL91 to receive 10% off all your supplies at

Seahawks Nail Art using Born Pretty Store Plate BP-L-006

{Press Sample}

I was sent Born Pretty Store Plate BP-L-006 to show you some of the designs and to review for you! I picked this plate because I was drawn to the classic designs. You can see all their available image plates here: BornPrettyStore Stamping Image Plates. This plate has a lot of really great and classic designs. For today’s Seahawks nail art, I picked the zebra design in the upper right hand corner.dscbps-stamping-plate-bp-L-006

I started with three coats of Sally Hansen Ivy League. Then, I used Bundle Monster Blue to stamp. I wish I had a darker blue polish to stamp with. This isn’t as vibrant of zebra stripes as I would have wanted. Then, I taped off the tips and used Sally Hansen Botbano Blue to make the french tips.

I have been very pleased with all the BPS plates I’ve received. I know there are some people who got some that weren’t etched deeply enough but that hasn’t been an issue for me so far. All the ones I’ve tried are great.

Thanks again to BPS for sending me these to review! You can find these supplies and more in the nail art section of the Born Pretty Store. Use code FYL91 to receive 10% off all your supplies at

Press Release: Sally Hansen and NYC Nude Collections

THINK: The fusion of color and science

WHAT IT IS: The first salon-quality manicure that combines pure nail color with high techno gel…exclusively from Sally Hansen. Love the high shine, glossy look of a gel manicure but could do without the complexity of LED lights, time consuming removal, and expensive price tag? Now, Sally Hansen, the leader in nail color innovation, is making manicure history with an entirely new way of thinking about long lasting nail color. Its new, patented Miracle Gel, is the first ever part lacquer, part gel manicure system that delivers up to 14 days of lasting color and shine in just 2 easy steps. Simply apply two coats of the Miracle Gel Color Coat, followed by the Miracle Gel Top Coat, to achieve the most convenient manicure, ever.

THE TECHNOLOGY: The Miracle Gel manicure contains patented Tube Technology. This allows a higher level of actives and continuous care ingredients to release into the gel lacquer film, prolonging the integrity of the filmresulting in beautifully durable, shiny nails. The advanced Color Coat, which is a combination base coat and nail color in one, and Top Coat formulas contain an oligomer, and the Top Coat also contains a photoinitiator. The photoinitiator in the Top Coat formula reticulates with the oligomer contained in the Color Coat, thus curing the formula without the need of an LED/UV light. As the manicure cures over time, it becomes more durable due to the increased hardness of the film. So LED/UV lamp curing is not necessary, only natural light. Then, when you’re ready to change up your look, Miracle Gel comes off easily with both acetone-based and acetone-free nail polish remover – no soaking, wrapping, scraping, or filing necessary.

WHAT THEY COST: Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Color Coat and Top Coat, $9.99 MSRP

THINK: Lip color longevity.

WHAT IT IS: Lip color that lasts through the longest kiss. NYC New York Color lets you smooch away without smooching away your lip color thanks to new Smooch Proof 16HR Lip Stain. The longwearing lip stain stays put for hours, so you can kiss to your heart’s content.

This lightweight, transfer-proof stain delivers irresistibly smooth, vivid lip color all day long. With its precise felt tipped pen applicator system, lining lips and filling them in requires one easy step for lust-worthy lips that won’t budge.

Sunny’s Body Products Christmas Box

{Purchased By Me}

Ever since I first found out about Sunny’s Body Products a few months ago, I’ve been totally obsessed with her seasonal boxes. This Winter box is still in stock as of this moment, so if you want one, act fast! This month, she even added a new item – the body balm – which I’m super excited to try!

On the left, I have the Body Balm in Frozen which is based off the movie. It’s a very light scent, which is good for a body product. It has juniper berry and a woody scent. I also love her Lip Balms! This month’s scent is Eggnog. The scent and flavor are quite light and enjoyable.

The Hand Butter is my favorite product. This month, the scent is Warm Vanilla Nutmeg.

The Miracle Balm this month is Balsam and Citrus. This very much smells like the holidays!!

I think the Sugar Scrub scent is my favorite of all the items this season. It’s called Ice Capade. It is citrusy, pepperminty, but also has a warm undertone. It totally reminds me of Christmas!

The Intensive Cuticle Therapy is called Christmas Cravings. This one also has citrus fruit scents but also cinnamon and ginger to really make sure you have memories of Christmas childhood flooding back!

Finally, Cuticle Oil which is my husband’s favorite this time! Hot Chocolate!!!

I can’t say enough good things about this box and Sunny’s products in general!! The scents are amazing and my hands feel awesome after using them!

Sally Hansen Blue Blood Swatch

{Purchased By Me}

I have a bit of a plain palette cleanser for this post! Sometimes it’s nice to just wear a plain mani. This is Sally Hansen Blue Blood. It’s a dark blue that dries to a natural matte finish. This is two coats.

Orly Bling

{Purchased By Me}

I’ve been enjoying Orly’s holiday collection so much this year that I just had to get my hands on Orly Bling as well. Bling is the sister polish to Orly Mirrorball. Mirrorball is a silver blingy holo while Bling is a gold blingy holo. This is two coats of Bling. I seriously love this. It’s so sparkly and fun!!

Enchanted Polish August 2014, September 2014, and October 2014

{Purchased by Me}

Today I have three Enchanted Polishes to show you. These are my favorite EP’s so far! Of all time! I’m so glad I was able to snap these up in the last pre-sale!

Enchanted Polish August 2014

August 2014 has so much amazing going on that I hardly even know how to describe it. It’s a shimmery multi-chrome that shifts from blue to green to purple. It looks completely different at all angles. This is the polish for anyone with a short attention span!

Enchanted Polish September 2014

I can’t even handle this polish. It’s so gorgeous. And it’s pink. It’s full of holo shimmers that will explode in the sun…I just hope the sun comes out soon! Hahaha!

Enchanted Polish October 2014

EP October 2014 is an army green with scattered golden shimmers.

I’m so happy with all three of these polishes. Even though none of them are holos…maybe even especially since they aren’t holos. I love me a good holo – it’s my favorite finish – but I’m really happy to see some of EP’s creativity shining through with these three. I can’t decide which is my favorite!

Black and Silver Nail Art

{Purchased by Me}{Press Sample}{Affiliate Links}

Today’s nail art was made using these lightening bolt nail guides from the Born Pretty Store. They sent these to me so I could review them for you. For my polishes, I used Orly Mirrorball and Orly Iron Butterfly, both of which I purchased myself at Sally’s.

Before we view the art, let’s look at Orly Mirrorball. The Facebook universe has been going wild for it with women rushing to Sally’s to get their hands on a bottle. In the bottle, it looks like a dull gray with some holo glitters. But once you get it on the nail – Oh Mama!! I haven’t seen any pictures that do this polish justice – including my own. Mirrorball is a linear holographic silver with holographic glitters. Holo on holo? Yes, please! If you want your fingers to look like a disco ball in the sun, then this polish is for you.

Three Shades of Blue

Today’s nail art is for one of this week’s prompts for Crumpet’s Nail Tarts 52-Week Challenge. This week’s prompts are animals (Domestic) and/or Three Shades of Blue. This post is for the three shades of blue prompt.  I also wanted to add in a splash of Golden Oldies Thursday. I used Zoya Yummy which I received as a gift from my mother-in-law in 2012! That count as an oldie, right? ;) I also used Zoya Ryan and Zoya Prim, both of which were received as press samples from Zoya.

I started with one coat of Yummy and then used a makeup sponge to add Yummy and Ryan on as a gradient. Once dry, I used this set from Cici&Sisi to stamp a design using Zoya Prim.

Watermarble Nail Art – Neon Green!

For this month’s He Picks My Polish challenge, my husband so lovingly picked Salon Perfect Loopy Lime (which I received as a press sample here) and China Glaze Grass is Lime Greener, from the City Flourish Collection. It’s been a while since I did a watermarble and I thought a two-tone marble could look interesting. I like how this turned out, I just wish my camera was better friends with neon polishes!

Skittles Nail Art for FingerFood’s Theme Buffet

I get a lot of good inspiration from FingerFood’s Theme Buffet. This week’s prompt is skittles nail art! I really like things to look as cohesive as possible so sometimes skittles can drive me a little batty. I decided to do something a little different on each nail, but still use the same sort of theme. I grabbed my MoYou Artist Collection Plate 08 which has a bunch of different partial frames on it. Then, I used some of my new Mentality jelly polishes to add a splash of color to each nail.

I started with two coats of Sally Hansen White Beaches. Once it was dry, I used Konad Special Black to stamp the various images on my nails. After a few minutes of dry time, I used Mentality Jill, Kacy, and Rachel to fill in parts of the design.

10 Household Items that are Surprisingly Useful for Nail Art

I’ve noticed throughout my travels in the nail art universe that there are many things we use for nail art that people wouldn’t normally think of! I picked out the 10 I personally use the most to share with you. Please note, I’m not the original idea-woman behind these items. I’ve just picked up these tips along the way from various Facebook groups I belong to! These are the actual items I use, though! :P

  1. Toothpicks
    Used for: Watermarbling! I like using toothpicks for this because it’s nice and small, they’re cheap, and you can use it more than once before it gets too dirty.

  2. Eyeshadow brush or other type of cosmetic brush
    Used for: Cleaning up around your cuticles after you’re done polishing. You have to figure out what style of brush is best for you. The ELF Eyeshadow brush is  very popular. I like a stiff brush, but others like a softer brush. It’s personal preference.

    French Tip Brush

  3. Sauce cup
    Used for: Holding acetone for your cleanup! You’ll use the brush from above and dip it into the sauce dish to get acetone.

  4. Scotch Tape
    Used for: Taping off designs for nail art. I use this the most for basic french tips. But, I’ve also used it to make squares, triangles, and patchwork manicures. P.S. An adorable tape holder makes it more fun to look at on your workstation. :P

  5. Q-Tips
    Used for: Cleanup around the cuticle after the manicure. I used Q-Tips in addition to the brush above. I use the Q-Tips for the big work, like if I got a big drop on my finger, whereas I use the brush for more delicate work that might actually be on my nail and/or cuticle.

  6. Lint roller
    Used for: Cleaning your stamping head after pressing the design on your nail. The lint roller removes all the polish without damaging the stamper’s head. It’s also super easy to use, even when your nail are still wet!

  7. Tampon
    Used for: Cleaning your stamping plate after you pressed the image on your nail. I will dip the slightly extended tampon into acetone (using the sauce dish above) and then I’ll rub it on the stamping plate. As you can see, I was recently stamping with purple polish!

  8. Credit Card/Hotel Room Key Card
    Used for: Scraping your stamping plates. The ones that come in the kits that are made of metal will terribly scratch your plates. Plastic cards are more gentle on the plate, but still remove all the excess polish. In fact, I think they do a better job because they’re a little flexible.

    I will also use these as a spot to drip polish on when I’m doing dotting, gradient, or lines. It’s much easier to use this as an artist’s pallet than it is to try and dip the dotting tool or sponge in the polish bottle!

  9. Makeup sponges
    Used for: Gradient nail art, galaxy nail art, and I’m sure more! I use these sponges because they’re easy to cut, meaning that I can use each one for many, many mani’s. You can see in the second picture that I cut this one already from the last time I used it.

    Makeup Sponges Bag

    Makeup SPonges

  10. Painter’s Tape
    Used for: Custom nail art designs. You can cut the painter’s tape however you want to create custom stencils for nail art. I don’t like scotch tape for this because it’s too flimsy and will usually rip. Painter’s tape is stronger but won’t ruin what’s already on your nails!

    Painters Tape

    Did I miss something? Is there a common household item that you use to do nail art. Something that nobody would expect? Share your tips in the comments!

NYC City Samba Collection

{Press Sample}

Introducing the NYC City Samba Collection – a collection available nationwide starting from June – September 2014. I was sent two of the polishes, a bronzer, and a lipgloss for review! I’m excited to tell you guys about this collection. I’ve only ever used one other NYC product – the Big Apple Lip Balm which I’ve almost used up!! (Using something up is a mark of a good product!)

Let’s take a look at the makeup first. I was sent Liquid Lipshine Lip Gloss in Guava. This will be available in three limited shades – Papaya, Passion Fruit, and Guava. I love the color I got because it’s exactly the color I like to wear. It smells divine and goes on well. I reapplied a few times during the day, as would be expected of any gloss. These will retail at $1.99.

I was also sent the Sun N’ Bronze Bronzing Powder. This is a smooth, lightweight bronzing powder with the tiniest tint of shimmer. (Not a lot at all.)  This will retail for $4.99.

Here are hand swatches of the gloss and all three colors from the bronzer. They went on smoothly. They aren’t too opaque, which is good considering I’m so fair that most bronzers look like clown makeup on me.

And now for the fun part! SELFIE ALERT!! I used the bronzing powder on my cheeks, but I also used it as my eyeshadow! I LOOOVE it as my eyeshadow! LOL! I also like this as a bronzer because it’s not too dark for me. The coral color adds a much more natural look. I really like this as a contouring product. I’ve had it for a week now and I’ve used it everyday since I got it.  The liquidshine gloss is on my lips too, of course!

Finally, the City Samba collection includes 8 polishes. They will be retailed for $1.99. When I put on the first coat of each of these, I was worried because it looked so sheer. I thought I might need at least three coats. However, when I put on the second coat, I was good to go. It self leveled very well and came out quite vibrant in the end.

NYC Jacaranda Flower is a lovely dark lilac purple.  I was playing with my camera settings trying to make my pics better and it backfired. So I apologize that these look a little fuzzy. The color is accurate, though!

NYC Palm on the Beach is a true Kelly green. This color will be perfect for St. Patty’s day next year! But it’s also a great green to wear for the summer!
