Steampunk Nail Art goes Topless

Ahhh!!! Saturday! I love Saturdays, don’t you?? For today’s mani, I started with two coats of OPI 4 in the Morning which is my favorite black. Then, I picked Mentality Shadow which is part of their stampers collection. I then paired those with my new Vivid Lacquer VL029 stamping plate which has cool lace and steampunk designs on it. I did not top coat this mani (hence my super clever title) because I wanted to retain the special finish of the OPI.

Patriotic Mani – Fingerfood Theme Buffet!

This mani is for the 4th of July obviously. :) It’s also for Fingerfood’s Theme Buffet prompt for Sunday which is “Patriotic”! I’m posting this early so you can view it on the 4th if you like as well. :) Hopefully people outside of the USA can appreciate it as well! I started with two coats of China Glaze Ruby Slipper which is just an amazing polish and I think everyone should own it. After it was dry, I taped off the tips and applied China Glaze Dorothy Who? to make a french mani…which I didn’t realize the irony until I was taking the pictures! LOL! Finally, I used Bundle Monster plate BM21 and Bundle Monster White Stamping polish to create the star designs.

First, we need to look at China Glaze Ruby Pumps in all its glittery gloriousness.

Lacquer Legion – On Holiday

This month’s Lacquer Legion theme is On Holiday. For me, the best holidays are ones I get to spend with my husband. He travel a lot (a lot. a lot.) and he doesn’t get a lot of days off. One day he DOES get off is the 4th of July. I did a very obvious 4th of July mani here so I wanted to set aside the red, white, and blue and see what else I could come up with. As I was flipping through my stamping plates, Vivid Lacquer VL015 caught my attention. It has gorgeous fireworks on it! And I’ve never even used them! Egads! So of course that’s what I knew I had to do! Fourth of July fireworks which are perfect because I also see fireworks when I’m with my husband (insert “aawww” sounds here).

I started with two coats of the wonderful and amazing Sally Hansen Black Out. I love Sally Hansen Black Out because it is easy to find, affordable, and reliable! I really can’t say enough good things about Sally Hansen. Because I’m a SH loyalist I also grabbed…you guessed it! My Color Foils! LOL! I am going to use these up if I’m not careful!!! Which would be the worst thing ever because they’re limited edition!!!! I used my Sally Hansen Pink Platinum and Sally Hansen Cobalt Chrome.

FingerFood Neon Nail Art!

This is my second time participating in FingerFood’s Theme Buffet! You can see what I did last time here. This week’s theme is neons! I love the Orly Baked Collection so I grabbed Orly Ablaze and Orly Neon Pink. I have never done a leopard print mani (I know, I know) so I grabbed my trusty Vivid Lacquer plate VL010 which has a great leopard print on it. I started with two coats of Orly Ablaze, waited for it to dry, used Konad Special Black to stamp and….waited for it to dry. :P Then, I taped off angles and painted Orly Neon Heat on top. Finally, I put some black striping tape on the edge.  Phew! That was a lot of steps! Good thing I just started Series 4 of Doctor Who so I was thoroughly entertained.

I have a plain swatch of Orly Ablaze here if you’re interested. Here is what it looked like before I started to get fancy.

GOT – Gradient Chevrons

This week’s prompt for Golden Oldies Thursday is gradient! I haven’t used my China Glaze holo collection in forever so I grabbed three of them for the gradient:

I liked how the gradient turned out, but I wanted to try out one of my new Vivid Lacquer plates. I picked plate VL010 because I thought the chevron design would look nice over the gradient.

Walking Through Dust

Happy Wednesday!!! I hope your week is going well. :) For today’s mani, I have OPI DS Lapis which is wickedly gorgeous. Then, I used my white Bundle Monster Stamping Polish and MoYou Artist Collection Plate 08 to stamp this frame design on my nails. Unfortunately, they’re a bit crooked. I was super distracted by Doctor Who and was not paying 100% attention. Oopsies! No spoilers, please! I’m only on Season 3 episode 3!!! :)

Here’s a plain swatch of OPI DS Lapis.  It naturally dries to a somewhat textured, matte finish. It’s gorgeous on its own, no top coat required. But, I will show you it glossy later, just make sure you’re wearing a hat because it’s going to blow your mind. (The hat is to keep all your head bits together when your mind is blow…)

Tri-Polish Tuesday – A Day at the Beach

Hooray! I finally made a tri-polish Tuesday mani that I really like. This month’s colors have been super hard for me. They are nude, coral, and turquoise. Today, my brain finally realized that combination could create a cool ocean mani. For my nude, I picked China Glaze Don’t Honk Your Thorn, for coral I picked Sally Hansen Peachy Breeze, and for the turquoise I picked essence The Incredible from the awesome superheroes collection.

I started with two coats of essence The Incredible. After it was dry, I used Sally Hansen Peachy Breeze and MoYou FairyTale Collection Plate 06 to stamp ocean creatures on my nails. Then, I dabbed China Glaze Don’t Honk Your Thorn on the tips to simulate the ocean floor. I like how it turned out!

Sally Hansen Color Foils B &W Nail Art

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Sally Hansen Color Foils!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE. Gush.Gush.Gush. Ok, enough of that! Let’s look at some nail art! I started with two coats of Formula X For Sephora White Matter, then used Konad Special Black and Pueen Plate 73 to stamp a design on top. After a healthy dose of Seche Vite and some time, I used scotch tape to tape off an angle and painted Sally Hansen Titanium Flush to paint a triangle of color foil amazingness. After that, I thought it could use a little something else, so I used silver striping tape to finish the look. Hope you like it!

4th of July Nail Art!

It’s not quite time for the 4th of July…but I wanted to give you plenty of time to plan your patriotic manis! I received the Salon Perfect Paint the Town Red, White, and Blue collection. You can see swatches of what I got here. This collection is perfect for the 4th of July. It’s packed with very cool glitter toppers. My favorite is Salon Perfect Star Spangled so of course I wanted to do some nail art featuring this beauty. To do this mani, start with two coats of a white polish. I picked Sally Hansen White On. I then topped it with Seche Vite. After it was dry, I used scotch tape to create a square where I then used Salon Perfect Wild Blue Yonder to paint blue. Another coat of SV. Then, I used my Bundle Monster Plate BM14 to stamp a couple stars on the blue. Finally, I used striping tape (Salon Perfect has some in this new line!) to create the red and white stripes. I used the gorgeous Salon Perfect Paint the Town Red polish for this part. Then, on the remaining three nails, I used Salon Perfect Star Spangled – two coats. I did a little fishing for the stars so I could have at least one of each color on each nail. I hope you like it! :) {The Salon Perfect polishes used in this mani were a press sample}

Friday Fail!! Sunsent Gradient

Today’s mani is for the Challenge Your Nail Art summer challenge. The prompt for today is Sunsets. I did a skyline sunset a while back that I really liked. Here, I’ll show it to you:

That is NOT what happened today. Today was one big, fat fail. I tried to get creative. I tried to be artistic and think outside the box. And then I tried matte. Smear City!! Oh me oh my! And hence, dear readers, we have another edition of fail Friday… How about you just imagine it’s really good???

If you want to see some non-failures, check out one of the blogs in the link-up below! :)

Sally Hansen Pink Boa and Bundle Monster Stamping Polish

As you know, I take part in many nail art challenge groups. They help me reach outside of my comfort zone. I’ve created some of my favorite nail art during these challenges – and some of my least favorite. ;) Two have converged on the same day!! Today, I have Crumpet’s Nail Tarts Golden Oldies Thursday and Challenge Your Nail Art. So I decided to extra challenge myself and try to make a mani that applies to both! Luckily for me, this week’s GOT challenge is ‘free choice’. So that just means whatever I do for the other one, needs to use polish I haven’t used in over a year. The prompt for Challenge Your Nail Art is “bright colors”. I grabbed Sally Hansen Pink Boa. This is one of the first polishes I ever owned. I believe I bought it in late 2011. Then, I decided to use my new Bundle Monster Stamping Polish #17 which is a nice silver color. I stamped with MoYou Artist Collection Plate 08.

First, we need to appreciate Sally Hansen Pink Boa all in its pink glory.

Sally Hansen Color Foils Stamping

When I first tried stamping with the Sally Hansen Color Foils, I couldn’t get it to work. Then another blogger (I can’t remember who right now! If you tell me, I’ll update this to credit her) let me know that she used a hard Konad stamper and she was able to stamp with them. I really wanted it to work, so I decided to give it another try…and lo and behold, it worked!!! Hooray! These are gorgeous polishes to stamp with!!!

I started with two coats of Julep Cleopatra and did not top coat it. Luckily, it dries super fast on its own.

I grabbed my MoYou Artist Collection Plate 08. This is the first time I’ve used it because I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. :P But I saw the floral pattern in the bottom right and thought it would be perfect for this design.

I stamped with Sally Hansen Cobalt Chrome and I really like how it turned out.

Then, I wanted a little extra pizazz so I took my dotting tool and dotted Sally Hansen Rose Copper on as an accent.

Stamping with Sally Hansen Matte Polish

I kept asking myself, “Would Sally Hansen Matte Polish stamp well?” So of course I gave it a try! You can see plain swatches of these polishes here. I started with two coats of Sally Hansen Mauve Matter which will be released next month in their new Beach Mattitude collection. It dried super fast without a top coat. I was a little worried I might smudge it if I didn’t use my trusty HK Girl Top Coat, but it dried quickly and was good to go! Then, I used Pueen Plate 59 to stamp using Sally Hansen In a Haze which is also going to be in the Beach Mattitude collection. I like how this turned out! I did have to work quickly as the matte polish dries very fast on the stamper. I used a stiff stamper (this Konad one to be exact) At first, I tried using my squishy Wistonia stamper, but that did not pick up the polish out of the plate. It’s very interesting how some polishes prefer sticky vs. hard stampers.

I’m still in the process of giving away an Enchanted Polish. You can enter that giveaway by clicking here!

Lace Mani Using Vivid Lacquer VL28

I finally got my Vivid Lacquer pre-order in the mail!!! Woo hoo! This order took forever to get because Anni had so many problems with her manufacturer. Luckily, she communicated that to customers so nobody was too mad. ;) This is plate VL28 which has lacy, antique, victorian designs on it. I loved this plate as soon as I saw it! I started with three coats of OPI Chic From Ears to Tail which is from the Minnie Couture collection. This pink has the subtlest amount of sparkle in it. I could only see it when applying in thin coats, you can’t even really tell by looking at the bottle! Then, I used Konad Special White to stamp some of the different lace designs on top. {Shhhh…I’m giving away an Enchanted Polish. Check it out here.}

Gold Stamping Nail Art

I’m actually really enjoying the mani I created for today! I started with two coats of OPI 50 is the New Fabulous which is a freaking perfect pink. Once it was dry, I used Pueen stamping plate number 73 and OPI Love.Angel.Music.Baby to stamp with. I didn’t use a top coat again since OPI Love.Angel.Music.Baby has a satin finish on its own and I didn’t want to lose this effect. I really love how this turned out. I think this will be one where I’m kinda sad to take it off!

Lacquer Legion – Garden

It’s time for another mani brought to you by the Lacquer Legion Challenge! This month’s theme is “Garden”. I started with two coats of Sally Hansen Liquid Gold from the new Sally Hansen Color Foils Collection. Then, I used Pueen Plate 72 which I got from Amazon. I used Sally Hansen Mint Spring and Sally Hansen Fuchsia Flare which are both from the Insta-Dri line. These have been reliably good stampers!!

Tri-Polish Tuesday – Lead Light Nail Art

It’s the last Tuesday in May! That means it’s the last Purple/Red/Green tri-polish Tuesday. This week, I decided to try the lead light nail art technique that has been wildly popular lately. Basically, you use jelly polishes to paint on top of other colors, usually over stamping. The jellies will show the stamping through them so you don’t have to be precise with how you fill it in. In fact, the artsy ones don’t stay in the lines at all and they look gorgeous!!!

I started this manicure with two coats of Sally Hansen White On and then applied HK Girl Top Coat. After waiting a few minutes, I stamped using Vivid Lacquer Plate VL008 and Konad Special Black. Then, I did another coat of HK Girl Top Coat. I did that extra top coat so I wouldn’t smudge the stamping when I started to fill in the flowers. Then, I used Sally Hansen Sea Through, Sally Hansen Grape Jelly, and Orly Sweet Tart. All three are jelly finish. The Sally Hansen ones are extremely sheer so I actually did two layers of each of those while Orly Sweet Tart only needed one layer to appear.

First, here’s the stamping before I filled in with color.

Sally Hansen Color Foils Nail Art

I picked up the new Sally Hansen Color Foils collection last weekend. Many people asked me if they would stamp well. I tested out their stamping powers, and they do NOT stamp well whatsoever. My stamper won’t pick up the polish! So it’s not even like it’s messy–it just doesn’t work at all. If you’re able to get them to stamp, please let me know how you did it! But since the collection is so gorgeous, I did want to do something fun with it. So for this mani, I started with two coats of Sally Hansen Purple Alloy and then used Pueen Plate 57 and Konad Special black to stamp on top of it.

If you want to see all the swatches from the amazing Color Foils collection, click here.

Also, don’t forget to enter this month’s giveaway! I’m giving away a Sally Hansen Gel Manicure Starter Kit! Click here to enter. ;)

Bridal Nails

Today’s Adventures in Stamping Challenge is to stamp over a pink base. I have really been hankering for a classic pink and white french mani. I decided to pull out my Bundle Monster Plate, BM10 which has a fun french mani design on it. I can’t find this exact plate on Amazon anymore, but there are similar designs here. I started with three coats of Revlon Pink Pineapple and topped with HK Girl Top Coat. After it was dry, I used Konad Special White polish to stamp the design. I thought this mani would be lovely to wear to a wedding–whether you’re the bride or otherwise! :D

Story Mani

For this mani, I was challenged to “tell a story” as my manicure. I hope the story I’m trying to tell with this one comes across. I thought about explaining, but shouldn’t I let the viewer interpret the story that makes sense to them? :D I used images from Vivid Lacquer plate VL 20 and MoYou Rebel Collection plate 02.

Spring Flowers Nail Art

The prompt for today’s Adventures in Stamping Challenge is “Spring Nails”. I did flowers…does that count? I don’t think this purple screams spring but my husband picked it out so I wanted to use it!! This is Sally Hansen Grape Going! and is from the wonderful Insta-Dri line. I used MoYou Artists Collection Plate 04 and Konad Special White to stamp.

GOT: Neon Nail Art – Julep Lauren

It’s Thursday! Happy Friday Eve! This week’s Crumpet’s Nail Tarts Golden Oldies Thursday Theme is: Neon Nail Art! The only polish I own that’s neon and hasn’t been used in a year is Julep Lauren. Lauren is a hot pink neon. I actually like it a lot which you can tell because the bottle is halfway empty! But I still haven’t used it in a year! That’s why these challenges are great – you are prompted to use old, but loved polishes. I decided to stamp black designs over Lauren because I love black and pink together. I picked MoYou London Fairytale Collection Plate 06 so I could do a different design on each nail. I simply used Konad Special Black for stamping.

Tri-Polish Tuesday: Purple, Green, and Red

Happy Tuesday, Internet! I hope your day is going splendidly. This month’s Tri-Polish Challenge from Crumpet’s Nail Tarts is to use Red, Purple, and Green in a single mani. I will be attempting to use these three colors every Tuesday in May for my mani. Wish me luck!

This week, I chose Sally Hansen Lively Lilac, Sally Hansen Mint Sprint, and Konad Special Red. I picked up a few of the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri line at Target recently because word on the internet is that they stamp well. They are usually one-coaters and there are quite inexpensive. I found the rumors of their stamping ability to be completely true! I’m so happy! I will certainly be picking up a lot more of this line! For this stamping design, I grabbed Pueen Plate 56.

A Love Poem to Polish

Dear Nail Polish,

Whether chrome or holo or creme.
When I find the right one, it’s a dream.
I love the pinks, the reds, the nudes.
Something to suit all my moods.

Whether it’s stamping or taping or dots,
You are always in my thoughts.
You make me feel chic and pretty.
I hope someone finds this poem witty.

Whether you’re in my drawer or desk or rack,
I’ll never forget you–not even in back.
Sometimes it’s a simple mani and sometimes it’s art
But no matter what, you’re always in my heart!

I hope you liked my poem. Apparently, I’m in  dorky mood. :P
Used for this mani: Mentality Bliss, Sinful Colors Black on Black, and Vivid Lacquer Stamping plate VL018

The BadA$$ Mani Prompt

This week, the Adventures in Stamping challenge is to create a mani inspired by “BadA$$”. I immediately went to my MoYou Rebel Collection plate, of course! I spotted Marilyn Monroe on there and totally wanted to stamp her face on my nails. :) She might not be who you immediately think of when you think of a BadA$$ but to me, I think she was. To complement her image, I chose Bundle Monster Plate 21 which has a cherry design. You’ll see the one of the things I don’t like about BM is that the images aren’t big enough for my nails. :(

I used Essence Super, Man! as my base color. Then I used Konad Special Black and Special Red for stamping.
