Madison Street Beauty Eyeshadow Swatches and Review

I was lucky enough to receive 6 eyeshadow pots from Madison Street Beauty for my honest review and to play with. I received six colors:
Celestial Silver
Naked Rose
French Lavender
Toasted Coconut

Description from the Madison Street Beauty webpage:
Each mineral eye shadow is highly pigmented, resists creasing and blends easily with a silky feel. All of our handmade eye shadow colors are formulated with natural ingredients. We do not test on animals and we offer a large collection of vegan cosmetics.

Of course I couldn’t wait for morning to come so I could try a new eye look! Here’s what I came up with for today.

For this look, I started with cloud as the highlighter all over the lid, up to the brow bone. Then, I used Naked Rose on the lid. I used Toasted Coconut for the crease accent. Then, I put a dab of Celestial Silver in the corners of my eyes.

This eyeshadow is on sale right now for $2! I was a little worried that it would fall out or be super creasy by the end of the day. Great news! It wasn’t! It had great staying power and still looked good at the end of my long work day.

For the second look, I started again with Cloud all over. Then, I used Manzanita on the lid. I used Toasted Coconut in the crease.

Now I’m no professional, I’m just a regular person who likes makeup. You should check out Madison Street Beauty’s Instagram page. It’s insane! So many people are doing so many cool looks with this eyeshadow!

I really think it’s worth trying. The price is unbeatable! Plus, it wears well and it’s super easy to blend!

Younique Mascara Review and Before and After Pics

I had the pleasure of sampling Younique Mascara from their consultant, Vanessa O. I got them in the mail on Wednesday evening and just ripped that package open!

The packaging is amazing. The products come in a case that looks like a fancy glasses case. It felt very luxurious. Here’s the description from the official Younique Website:

Our simple three-step process combines Transplanting Gel and Natural Fibers to build incredible thickness and volume to your existing lashes. Watch as your lashes transform into something you have only dreamed of! The 3D Fiber Lashes are water resistant but easily washes off with warm water and facial cleanser at the end of the day. Try it! It will quickly become your favorite makeup must-have!

And the directions, also from their Website:

To prepare your eyelashes for optimal results, first apply one thin coat of your own regular favorite mascara and let it dry. Then, apply Moodstruck Transplanting Gel (containing conditioning collagen) to your lashes.

Immediately following, and while the gel is still wet, apply the Moodstruck Natural Fibers.

Reapply the Transplanting Gel a second time to secure the natural fibers onto your lashes.

For my first attempt, I followed their instructions exactly. I applied one thin coat of Buxom mascara, which is what I’d been using lately. I then waited for it to dry, then put on the gel, and then the fibers.

Me Oh My! Look At Those Lashes!!!

Younique Mascara Review with Before and After Pics

My thoughts: This is actually pretty amazing! I feel like I have on false eyelashes…without the hassle of false eyelashes!!! I used to wear falsies almost every day. Since I stopped, I felt like my eyes were always lacking a little oompf. Like this:

Except…that’s how I felt without falsies on. LOL

Well Younique Mascara is the answer to that little problem!!! I can feel like I’m wearing falsies! HOORAY!!!

Tips: Here are some tips I got from Vanessa O.: You don’t actually have to put on a coat of your own mascara first. I love this tip because nobody wants extra steps in their morning routine!

You want to make sure you get a good coat of the transplanting gel. She technically said, “Take the transplanting gel tube and turn it upside down with the top facing down and rub it in your hands – this warms the gel and assists with getting more on the wand! Pump the wand several times before pulling out and when pulling it out, twist up instead of pulling straight out.”

To remember all that, I just say, “Rub it and pump it, girls!!!” ;) (If that sounded dirty, then…well…I meant it to. LOL.)

I am SO happy with this product! It’s not even that expensive compared to other high-end mascaras sold through places like Sephora or Macy’s. If you’re used to drugstore prices, the $29 price tag might make you stretch a little, but it’s right on par with other high-end mascaras.

So what are your thoughts?

Cover Girl Bombshell Mascara Review

By now, if you ever go to the grocery store, you know that Cover Girl has released a new mascara that they are calling “Bombshell”. I wanted to try it out, especially after watching Kandee Johnson’s review of it on YouTube.

There are two steps to this mascara. Step one is the brush in the top middle. It coats your lashes with a black primer. Step two is the brush in the top right. This really adds a lot of length and volume!

The big middle picture is after applying both steps. The bottom left and middle are me without any mascara on. The bottom right is my eye closed with mascara for comparison purposes.

Cover Girl Bombshell Mascara Review

I really like the volume this mascara adds. I had been using Benefit They’re Real, which I loved! I think this one is a good drugstore replacement for that. I do think that Cover Girl Bombshell clumps a little bit more than They’re Real, but paying 1/3 of the cost for it is a good tradeoff.

The only really negative about this mascara is it’s really hard to get off! The good news about that means it lasts all day. The bad news is that you’re scrubbing your eyes trying to get it off! Even a good eye makeup remover has a hard time with it. I find myself using a different mascara on the weekends so I can give my eyes a rest from this hard-core mascara.

The bottom line: I like this mascara a lot and I will likely repurchase it.
Have you tried it? What do you think?

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Vox Box!!! (Sally Hansen #CSMTKO)

I was lucky enough to receive a box full of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail polishes courtesy of in exchange for my honest opinion. And…to be totally honest…I’m already a huge fan of Sally Hansen so this was a great treat for me.

I received three colors:
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Red My Lips #470
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Pat on the Black #510
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Jaded #540

The brush shape for the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure is my favorite of every brush I’ve ever tried. (I own over 430 polishes!!) The square edges with the slight curve makes it very easy to get close to, but not touching the cuticle. I wish all brushes were shaped like this!

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Pat on the Black is actually a super dark purple. The formula for all three of these polishes is in between a cream and a jelly…aka a “crelly”. This one is two coats.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Red My Lips is a crelly candy-apple red. Formula was fantastic and the color is perfect for a classic red. This is two coat.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Jade is a crelly jade color. I did need three coats for this one due to the lightness of the color.

These polishes are a win-win-win. The color is great, the brush is the best, the formula is smooth and easy. If you paid $15+ for these polishes, you would say it’s totally worth it. But they are around $5!! I highly recommend Sally Hansen brand in general but the  #CSMTKO line is very, very well done.

Meaningful Beauty Crème de Serum Review

I receive Cindy Crawford Meaningful Beauty Serum from Influenster free of charge in exchange for my honest opinion.
I have been using this product for about three weeks now. You can see that I’m not even halfway done with the small bottle. I use a little more than a pea-sized amount to cover my whole face.

The first few nights I tried the serum, I forgot to put moisturizer on after! The reason why is because this serum is super moisturizing. I have noticed a slight improvement in my overall skin tone. I still broke out a little during a “certain week of the month”, but overall I do think this has improved my ski tone.

I might buy it when I run out but that decision will depend on the full cost of the product and if I think I might like other products in the Meaningful Beauty line. I would recommend trying this product for yourself. I have very sensitive skin (a lot of things will give me a rash) and this did not have an bad effects on my skin so that is very good news for other women in my same skin predicament!

If you want to learn even more about this serum, visit their site here:,default,pg.html

For purchasing information, visit their website below. I’m not aware of any stores that sell Meaningful Beauty. :D,default,pg.html

Dr. Scholl’s Active Series Insoles

I received these Dr. Scholl’s Active Series Insoles complimentary from for my opinion and review.

I really, really wanted to like these. I’ve been very consistent this past year about exercising daily. I am up to over 5 miles per day, which I’m rather proud of. My heels had begun to cause me pain so I was hoping these Dr. Scholl’s Active Series Insoles would help alleviate that.

You’re supposed to completely take out the insoles that come standard with your shoes and replace them with the Dr. Scholl’s Active Series Insoles. Unfortunately, I threw my original insoles away.

The first walk I took in these, I thought they were just ok. They definitely didn’t make me go “Wow! It’s like I’m walking on clouds!”

After weeks of repeated use, my knees, shins, AND feet were all crying out in pain whenever I walked. At first, I just thought I was overdoing it. But then, I switched to some different running shoes. Pain gone. So the only thing I can imagine is that these Dr. Scholl’s Active Series Insoles were causing the pain in my legs! I start using them–pain starts. I stop using them–pain stops almost immediately. I’ve been back in my other running shoes for a week now and my knees, shins, and feet are still doing well.

Therefore, I can not recommend that you buy these insoles. I just recommend a good pair of running shoes!

Pure Nail Oil 30 Day Follow-Up

Last month, I did a review on Pure Nail Oil. I did the suggested three day “go naked” challenge. You can read more about that by clicking here.

I wanted to give a follow-up on how much I’ve been liking this product! My cuticles and nails have never looked better.

Here is the picture I can’t keep staring at. This is my ‘before’ picture from the three day challenge. I can’t believe how dry, peeling, and unhealthy my cuticles look.

OK. So what’s the real story?
Well, today I was ready to find out!

What’s in the box? The nails (of course!), a teeny tiny nail file, and a “prep pad” which appears to just be an alcohol wipe.

These are the only directions available. They are on the outside of the box.

Here’s the front and back of the nails. You can see the little pull tab where you’ll peel off plastic, exposing the glue that will adhere them to your nail.

Here’s me trying to size the nails. Wait? What’s that? My nail is showing?? WTF! This isn’t going to work! Wait, maybe there is a bigger one. What? This is the biggest one? You have to be kidding me!

Just for fun, here’s a shot of my plain old stained nail. My nails are NOT long. I barely have any white showing.

Let’s try again. OMG! It’s still not working!

Ok. So I will admit that I have deep cuticle beds but I still think these are ridiculously short. Not a single nail was long enough. My natural nails are not that long and I’m not willing to file them way down just for the sake of this silly fake nail.

So the verdict is…..Fail!

Maybelline 24 Hour Color Review

I have been using the Maybelline 24 hour color lip products for quite some time now, so I thought I’d do a review. The color I’m wearing in the photos is Timeless Rose. This is one of my favorite lip colors of all time. The staying power is awesome! I can eat and drink without having to reapply. However, it’s not 24hours! I would give this a good solid 6-8 hours before a touch up is needed.
The problem with touching this up, is you really need to take it off before you re-apply. I do not recommend adding more on top of the old color. This will give you weird flaky things that fall off and then the lip color will look splotchy.
I do not find this to be very drying. I’m a chapstick addict so non-drying is important to me. The great thing is that you can apply any old lip balm over this and you’re not going to mess up the color.
Overall, I think this is a great product and I would recommend trying it.

Julep May 2013 Maven Box – American Beauty

This month, I changed Maven profiles from Classic With a Twist to American Beauty so I could try Julep’s new DD (Dynamic Do-All) Cream. The pre-press was very good on this cream. However, once people started getting their boxes, they freaked out (in a bad way). People accused the tubes of being empty and not enough cream. I completely disagree. There is 1 oz of cream in there. Compared to all the other bottles of 1 oz cream products I have, it is the same amount. I think people are overreacting.

Pic of me before any makeup is on:

Pic of me with Julep DD Cream and Julep DD Concealer. First thoughts: Even the “light” color is two shades too dark for me! Second thoughts: Except for weirdly darker skin, I don’t look any different. You can still see blemishes, dark circles, and redness. :(

Pic of me after all makeup is on: I added blush, highlighter, powder, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss.

Verdict: I will not be re-purchasing this product. It’s too dark for me (even in the lightest shade) and does nothing to correct my blemishes and skintone. My favorite BB cream of all time is Tarte BB Cream. It has fantastic coverage and I use it instead of foundation.

Did you get the DD cream? If so, what did you think?

Pure Nail Oil Three Day Go Naked Challenge and Review

Throughout my travels on the internet, I discovered Anna is touting the wonders of her Pure Nail Oil, so I thought I would do the three day hydration challenge that she describes on her site. (Yes. A scary thought: Going three days without polish!!!)

I took before and after shots for you to see what happened.

Left hand:

Just 3 days after

Right hand:

Just 3 days later
The left picture is before and the right picture is after. Look at the horrid shape my right hand’s cuticles are in! Egads! That’s embarrassing!
Here’s what I notice: The whites of my nails look slightly whiter and just look healthier in general. The cuticles look better, especially on my right hand. This is most apparent on my pinkie nail. Three days ago, that cuticle was painful! Now it’s getting back to a healthy state.
The verdict: I will continue to use Pure Nail Oil. I think it’s definitely worth looking in to as your go-to nail and cuticle oil.
What do you think? Can you see a difference in my before and after shots? Have you tried Pure Nail Oil?

Tasty Kake Kandy Bar Kakes Reese’s Review

I received a TastyKake bar courtesy of I received it free of charge in exchange for my honest opinion of the product. To see everything I received in my box, please click here.

I received the Reese’s flavor which couldn’t have been more perfect for me, as I freakin’ love Reese’s.

First impressions: Really high in fat and carbs. I’ve been losing weight (78lbs so far! E-High Five!) so this was a major turnoff. Out of my allotted daily food intake, this would be 30% of everything I can eat in a day. WAY too much. So I thought, “This better be f-ing delicious!”

After dinner, I ripped this baby open. Second impression: It does not look that appetizing. This photo is from the freshly opened package. I haven’t even touched it yet. Doesn’t it look a little dry and old?

I decided to dive right in.

I liked how the frosting on the outside was crunchy. That was pleasant. However, the chocolate cake on the inside was extremely dry. There is a layer of peanut butter inside (aka why it’s called Reese’s flavor!) but it was a measly, barely noticeable layer. I could barely taste the peanut butter.

Look–You can hardly even see it! And, doesn’t it look super dry? Well your eyes do not deceive you, dear reader. It IS Super dry.

Verdict: I will not be purchasing TastyKakes. It is not nearly delicious enough to warrant taking up 30% of what I can eat in a day! I’d rather have a real piece of cake or a real Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. You may like this product if you’re not trying to lose weight and you’re craving a fast sugar fix, but honestly, there are way better things on the marker. Sorry, TastyKake! You’re not for me!

Essence Peel Off Basecoat Review

I saw this new essence nail art peel off base coat at the grocery store for $3-5 (can’t remember exactly). I thought it would be an interesting experiment.

The concept is that you apply a generous coat of this and let it completely dry. Then, you do your manicure as usual (not using another basecoat of course).

It smells kind of like white out! It goes on white and then you know it’s dry when it’s clear. It takes up to 10 minutes. I didn’t time it, but it felt a lot faster than that.

After a few minutes of drying time. You wait until it’s totally clear so as you can see in this photo, I need to wait a few more minutes.

Then, I did my manicure with L’Oreal New Money and L’Oreal Sweet Nothings.
I had the mani on for a few hours and decided to peel off and see what happened.

It came off easily! I just picked at the edge and it started peeling right up.

Easy-peasy! Look at that! Right off in one fell swoop!

I picked off my other nails…

When applying, you’ll want to be careful to get it everywhere you’re going to get polish. In this thumb photo, you can still see green at my cuticle. I didn’t get the peel off basecoat all the way down but I put polish down there. I little polish remover took care of that, though!

My opinion is that this basecoat is revolutionary to us nail painting junkies! Really, the only thing that keeps me from doing my nails more than once a day is that polish remover dries out my cuticles and skin so much. Well… with this, you won’t need to buy remover ever again! Ok. Maybe a little if you have a little incident like I did on my thumb. :)  But even with that, I will surely be re-purchasing this product again and again!

As a final test, I wanted to see how it would do on glitter polish. Glitter is infamous for it’s troublesome removal. Well, scrub no more! It peels right off!

This is a must-have in any polish lovers arsenal of tools!

Drugstore Nail Haul! aka…Best Day Ever!

If you have great attention to detail, you will have noticed that this is my second post today that is FULL of polish!!! After I got this haul at the grocery store, I came home to discover that the mailman had delivered my May 2013 Julep Maven Upgrade box! To see pics of that, click here.

Back row: Essence Nail Stickers, Essence Dotting Tool, Essence French Tip Guides.
Front row: Revlon Whimsical, Maybelline Blue Blowout, Maybelline Styled Out, L’Oreal Sweet Nothings, Essence Peel Off Base Coat, L’Real New Money, Wet n Wild Bijou Blue, Wet n Wild Night Prowl, Wet n Wild Caribbean Frost, Essence That’s What I Mint!, Essence Off to Miami!

I am very intrigued by this base coat. The idea is that you will be able to peel the polish off later, I guess without needed polish remover. For $3, I thought it was worth the experiment!

It’s raining nail polish in my house today!!! :) :) :)

Calico Nail Bandages Review

So I split my ring finger nail. :( It was too far down to simply file it, so I pulled out my nail bandages. These are tiny clear sticky ovals that you put on your nail tear. The package says it lasts for days, even under water, which is not true in my experience. I found they last about one day. They are great for preventing that tear from ripping off and creating a  jagged nail or, even worse, an exposed nail bed.

If you see the bumps on my ring finger nail, that’s the clear bandage underneath my nail polish.
