Random Swatches!

{Purchased by Me}

I’ve been compiling a random collection of swatches. None of them really warranted their own full post, but now that I have four, I figured you might like to see them. :)

Butter London Slapper – This is an old photo! Back when I was wearing my midi ring. I stopped wearing it because the center “diamond” fell out. :( :(

Venique Bursting from the Seams. This one kind of has a satin finish even though I did use topcoat. I like the look!venique-bursting-at-the-seams-swatch

Sally Hansen Mint Tint. I can’t even remember how long I’ve had this one. I think it’s been sitting in my drawer for at least a year! Oops!

Picture Polish Douceur. I’ve had this one for years. This is the first time I wore it. I can’t believe I didn’t break out this beauty ages ago! It’s a great nude with some fun purple glitters!!!

Thanks for stopping by today. I know my postings have been less consistent. Starting my own dog training company is taking up craploads of time. I only paint my nails 5 days a week now! WHAT?! It used to be every day! But I just don’t have that much time any more. (Cue sad violins here)

40 Great Nail Art Ideas…Turquoise Tribal Nail Art

{Press Sample}{Purchased by Me}

Today’s post is for the weekly Crumpet’s Nail Tarts challenge! The prompt this weeks is Teal/Turquoise. My assigned nail art method is ‘tribal’. I started with two coats of Picture Polish Jade. I used a stamping design from It Girl Nail Art IG106, which was originally sent to me as a press sample. To help keep the design straight and even, I used my new Born Pretty Store clear stamper. You can read my full review here. My stamping polish was Konad Black.

Halloween Nail Art

It’s October!!! I love Halloween so much. It’s my favorite holiday. I don’t know why…I guess it’s just a combination of things. I love this time of year in general – I love the smells, the colors, the clothes, the weather, the foods, the scary movies, the hot chocolate, and I could go on and on. I bought these decals forever ago and can’t find them on Amazon anymore. But there are still a ton of decals available through Amazon Prime and you could easily get them in time for Halloween!

I started with two coats of piCture pOlish bewitch which is an amazing dark, vampy color with greenish gold shimmers. It’s perfect for fall/Halloween manicures!

Ocean Nail Art for Challenge Your Nail Art

It’s time for another piece of nail art for this month’s Challenge Your Nail Art theme! This month’s theme is Pirates. Yesterday’s prompt was sea creatures. You can see the mermaid nail art I did by clicking here. Today’s prompt is oceans! I thought of doing an underwater scene, but since I’ve done that before, I wanted to try something new. Then, I saw an image as I was flipping through my Cici&Sisi plates and I saw something that reminded me of the froth when the ocean water hits the sand. I was suddenly inspired to do a frothy, seafoam mani! I started out with three coats of piCture pOlish better which I received from them as part of BloggerFest earlier this year. Then, I did a gradient using piCture pOlish Sea Jewel. The gradient is more subtle than what my head thought it would be, but I like the look of it away.

Here is what the gradient looked like prior to the stamping portion of this nail art.

Fuzzy Little Monster – piCture pOlish Blog/Insta Fest 2014!!!!

I’ve been keeping a secret!!!!!!!! I was selected to participate in piCture pOlish Blog/Insta Fest 2014!! The prize for 5 winners will be to collaborate on a custom shade.  Doesn’t that just sound completely dreamy? This year piCture pOlish teamed up with NailVinyls.com as part of the challenge.

In addition to the two polishes I was to use for the challenge, piCture pOlish also sent me Bette. Let’s take a look at this gem first! I like to think they sent me piCture pOlish Bette because I’m Betty’s Beauty Bombs, but I might be reading too much in to it. :P

Bette is a light, sky blue with holographic shimmers. I did three thin coats here to ensure there was no visible nail line. I’m so thrilled they sent me this one! It’s so gorgeous!

piCture pOlish Dotticure

Today’s mani features one of my all time favorite brands, piCture pOlish. This is an Australian brand so I get my fix at Llarowe.com. Today, I picked piCture pOlish shocked with is a pink jelly packed with shimmers and piCture pOlish sea jewel which is a teal/turquoise color also packed with shimmer. However…they are different kinds of shimmer as you’ll see in the macro shots. I started with two coats of shocked and then used three different sized dotting tools to create the dots.

First, here is piCture pOlish shocked on its own.

Striping Tape Tutorial

I love, love, love striping tape so I thought I would write up how I do my striping tape manis. Ironically enough, this is one of the worse striping tape manis I’ve done! LOL. I made a couple mistakes which I will point out along the way so that you will know not to make them like I did. :)

Step one is to paint your nails just like a regular mani – basecoat, color, topcoat. I use HK Girl Top Coat because it dries crazy fast. I am not a patient person!

I selected piCture pOlish aphrodisiac for this mani. It’s a dark, dark purple.

picture-polish-aphrodisiac

Once dry (about 10 minutes if you’re using a super fast drying top coat), lay down striping tape in whatever pattern your heart desires. I put my striping tape in an old tape dispenser like this for easy access. I use scissors to cut it because it’s too thin for the teeth on the dispenser to cute.

Here’s where I made a mistake – if you look carefully, the tape is not flush with my nail. It must be flush all the way to your skin in order to work properly. Otherwise, the polish will bleed underneath and it won’t look good. See the gaps? There’s on at the top of the nail and one on the right. Those should not be there!!

Striping-Tape-Walk-Through

Then, paint your next color on top! I picked piCture pOlish Jasmine. This is another error I made. This kind of mani works best if the darker color is on top. Since you need to remove the tape when wet, you really can only do one coat. Therefore, you want the darker polish on top so it’s more opaque. I did this backward so I had to do jasmine in a really thick coat which doesn’t look that great.

Tutorial-for-striping-tape

Once you’ve painted the second color on one nail, remove the striping tape right away. It needs to come up when the polish is wet. If the first polish comes up with the striping tape, then you didn’t wait long enough for it to dry.

Once all your nails are done repeating the steps above, you can put another layer of top coat on to seal it all in. Then, you end up with something like this! You can see on my pinkie what the effects of non-flush striping tape were. See how Jasmine has bleed into the straight lines? Not cute. But at least my mistake shows you what happens and why! ;)

I hope this tutorial on striping tape was helpful for you! Sorry my end-product wasn’t perfect. LOL. Perhaps I’ll re-do this tutorial some day with a perfect end product!!

Picture Polish French Tips

For today’s french tips mani, I started with two coats of Picture Polish Sea Jewel which is crazy sparkly and gorgeous. Then, I taped it off and used Picture Polish Monroe to make french tips. The green from Sea Jewel made Monroe look more purple than red, but I like the look. In case you hadn’t already noticed from previous posts this week, I broke the corner of my pointer finger. :( :( :( I did it while teaching a dog training class last weekend! So, at least it was for a good cause. LOL. Picture Polish is one of my favorite brands. Their colors are always so gorgeous! The application is a dream. And their bottle shape is so cute! {Shhhh…I’m giving away an Enchanted Polish. Check it out here.}

Tri-Polish Tuesday – May #2 Green, Red, and Purple

Welcome to another week of Tri-Polish Tuesday as presented by Crumpet’s Nail Tarts! This month’s theme is Green, Red, and Purple. This week, I picked three Picture Polish bottles. PP is one of my favorite brands ever.  It just speaks to me! I’ve loved every one I’ve ever tried. I decided to do Patchwork Nail Art for this week’s design.

Polishes used:

Picture Polish Sea Jewel
Picture Polish Dorothy
Picture PolishUltra Violence
Black Nail Art Pen

I hope you like this week’s tri-polish challenge mani! I’m really happy with how it turned out! This is one of the few times when the picture in my head actually appeared on my nails!

SSP Vinyl Review

SSP Vinyl was generous to send me a handful of nail art stickers to make some designs with. These are the style of stickers where you peel them off to reveal a design rather than ones that are the designs themselves.

The quality of these stickers is fantastic. They stuck well to the nail…but not so sticky that they pulled off the base coat of nail color. They laid nice and flat so the design would look good on my nail. I am quite pleased with these stickers and I can’t wait to see what other designs they can create!

Where to buy:
Etsy
eBay

For this, I used Orly Lavish Bash, Sally Hansen Chic Pink, and the circle design from SSP Vinyl.

For this design, I used piCture pOlish shocking and piCture pOlish aphrodisiac along with the lighting bolt SSP Vinyl stickers design.

For this design, I used Orly Fowl Play, L’Oreal I Like it Chunky, and the SSP Vinyl Chevron Designs.

Pink and Red Valentine’s Day Mani

This is probably the only week all year you can do a pink and red mani. :)

For this, I started off with two coats of piCture pOlish dorothy. This is a gorgeous shimmer red. It really does look like ruby slippers!

Of course then I did a coat of HK Girl Top Coat. I’d never be able to do nail art without it! After it dried, I put striping tape in all different directions and then used ManGlaze Lesbihonest and then peeled off the tape. Viola!

piCture pOlish Swatches

Here are some piCture pOlish swatches from my recent Llarowe order. I also finally got some swatch sticks! That means, some of these swatches aren’t on my hands. :) I’m not sure which I like better. Hand swatches are more fun…but I’ll be able to get more posted if I just do it on a swatch stick. Hmm… Decisions, decisions.

You can click on the pictures to make them bigger. That way, you can see greater detail. (This actually applies to all my posts!)

piCture pOlish jasmine is a lilac with multi colored glitters. I needed three coats for this one.

piCture pOlish is a dark purple with tiny fleck glitters. This is two coats.

piCture pOlish douceur is a beige with hot pink glitters. This is two coats.

piCture pOlish Monroe

I have been lusting after piCture pOlish Monroe for quite some time. Not only am I a huge Marilyn fan, but the color looked gorgeous! So I decided to finally bite the bullet and get her! I certainly don’t regret it! :) I did do three coats for maximum opaqueness but could have gotten away with two. It’s a deep purple red with small silver shimmers.
