NYC Lovatics Collection

{Press Sample}

NYC sent me their new Lovatics collection to play with! This collection is by Demi Lovato. My husband loves Demi so how could I not review her makeup?? I was sent two of the lip and cheek stains as well as the natural palette.  The two stains are Cheeky Pink and Cheeky Berry.

The NYC Lovatics Collection palette is gorgeous. It has a lot of shades in common with a popular high-end nude palette. This NYC Natural palette has a great mix of matte and shimmer. This allows for a lot of different looks! You can go very light and nude with this palette or you can do something deeper and smokey.

The shadows aren’t quite as smooth and blendable as its famous counterpart, but this is definitely an affordable option to look in to. The palette also doesn’t have shades that are a dark as the leading competitor’s. I actually prefer this as I rarely wear black or dark gray shadows.

This lip and cheek tints were a huge win for me. Normally, I can only wear a stain one day because two days in a row causes my lips to dry out too painfully. This stain did not do that! I was very amazed and thrilled. It lasted most of the day, too! I found myself reapplying at lunch after I’d eaten. When I reapplied, it blended well into the parts of my lip that were still stained from the morning. Sometimes, stain residue doesn’t blend and you end up looking like some sort of weird clown.

I liked the shadows a lot, but it’s really those stains that are the winners. Those are a must-try!

Have you seen this collection in your local drugstore yet? I know that I want to pick up the other two shades of the stains. :D

Blue on Blue Two Tone Stamping

{Press Sample}{Purchased by Me}

Today I have some blue on blue two tone stamping to show you! I started with NYC Sea of Diamonds which was originally sent to me as a press sample. Then, I used Konad Light Blue to stamp this flowery-geometric design from Bundle Monster plate BM-XL206.

Christmas Nail Art

{Press Sample}{Purchased by Me}

Today’s mani is for the Crumpet’s Nail Tarts challenge. This week’s prompt is Christmas! I started with two coats of NYC Ruby Slippers which was originally sent to me as a press sample. Then, I used Mundo de Unas Military Green and the Bundle Monster + Nailstamp4fun collab plate to create the star design.

Drugstore Holiday Nail Polish Collections

{Press Sample}

Sally Hansen and NYC each sent me two of their holiday polishes to swatch and share with you! I’ve always been a big fan of these two brands because they are inexpensive, easy to find, and of great quality! All swatches are two coats.

Sally Hansen Buffalo Nickel is a metallic silver.

Sally Hansen Spice Age is a shimmery metallic brown that is super gorgeous in sunlight.

NYC Ruby Slippers is a red jelly full of little glitters. I love all the jelly+glitter polishes from NYC and this one is no exception!

NYC Sea of Diamonds is a blue jelly with glitters. This is another stunner from NYC! It’s sparkles galore!

Some of these polishes are re-promotes but all of them are beautiful! Never underestimate the beauty of a drugstore polish!

Halloween with Sally Hansen and NYC!

{Press Sample}

Sally Hansen and NYC sent me some of their Halloween-themed nail polish just in time to show you for Halloween! Good thing these are available at drugstores nationwide! They also sent me their waterproof eyeshadow stick in black and Rimmel threw in their Lift Me Up mascara in black.

NYC Black Lace is a creme polish. It’s a bit on the thin side, but arrives at full opacity in two coats.

I used these adorable pumpkin nail stickers from Polished Vino to create a very quick and easy Halloween mani.

Sally Hansen Electra-Cute is the perfect shade of Halloween orange!

Sally Hansen Blacky O is a lovely black creme. It’s thicker than the NYC one so if you’re looking for a black creme, then you’ll just need to decide which kind of formula you like better.

Here is my Halloween skittle nail art! I used Blacky O as the base. I used striping tape and vinyls from Polished Vino to create the different look on each nail using Electra-Cute.

Happy Halloween!! Remember to be safe out there! And leave your pets indoors!!

NYC New York Color Expert Last Lip Lacquer

{Press Sample}{Affiliate Links}

NYC New York Color sent me a sampling of their Expert Last Lip Lacquer. You can find these in drugstores and on Amazon. They are a highly pigmented lacquer, like a lipstick, but have the shine of a gloss. They are hydrating so they keep lips soft. I love how it’s also not sticky! (I really can’t  stand sticky lip products). These will retail for $3.99 wherever NYC is sold. Available shades are: Bare Brooklyn, Riverside Romance, Chelsea Cherry Blossoms, Lincoln Square Love Affair, Coney Island Candy, Fidi Fuchsia, Central Park Passion, Madison Square Mauve, Big City Berry, Rockaway Ruby, Turtle Bay Toffee, and Tribeca Mocha.

I was sent the following shades, pictured from left to right: Madison Square Mauve, Chelsea Cherry Blossoms, Rockaway Ruby, Coney Island Candy, and Lincoln Square Love Affair.

Madison Square Mauve – This is a lovely pinky brown color. It went on very smoothly and had pretty good staying power. Here I am heading out to teach some dog training classes!

Lincoln Square Love Affair – This one is a light pink. Not quite a Barbie pink, but in that general family. Here I am getting ready to go watch the Seahawks game with some friends!

Chelsea Cherry Blossoms – This is a very nude color. It’s my least favorite of the bunch because I don’t like the way nude lips look on me. Here I am on my lunch break at work!

Coney Island Candy is a very light pink. Here I am getting ready to start my work day. Computer is turning on!

Rockaway Ruby is a classic red lip.

These went on well and had fairly good staying power. My favorites were Rockaway Ruby and Madison Square Mauve. Those were the most flattering colors and will be the ones I’ll rewear the most often. Get your favorite color in drugstores or Amazon.

NYC and Rimmel New Releases

{Press Sample}

NYC and Rimmel sent me some of their new releases to review and share with you! From NYC, I got their new Big, Bold eyeliner in black as well as four waterproof chubby eyeshadow sticks. From Rimmel, I got their new Lift Me Up mascara in black.

A little more info about the new Rimmel mascara:

Here’s an eye look I did using all but the blue shadow stick. I used East River Romance (the blue shadow stick) in this 4th of July look here.

I used Rockefeller Center Snowflakes (the white) under my brow and in the corners of my eyes. I used 5th Ave Gold rush (the gold) on the lid and Central Park Tulips (the purple) in the crease. I then used a stubby, stiff shadow brush to blend them. I wish these colors had a better color payoff. They look so lovely in the packaging but I just couldn’t get them to show up in an eye look.

The NYC Big, Bold eyeliner works really well. It took a little getting used to since the tip is a bit chubby, but it goes on very smoothly. I’ve used it 5 days in a row now and the application is as lovely as day one.

The Rimmel mascara is pretty fabulous – especially for a drugstore brand. It even kinda smells like cucumbers.

NYC Patriotic Makeup Look

{Press Sample}

NYC sent me two of their CityProof 24 hour waterproof eyeshadow sticks to celebrate the 4th of July! These chubby eyeshadow sticks glide on quite smoothly and the color payoff is fabulous!

I used both eyeshadows in this look. Snowflakes was used all over the lid, all the way up to the brow bone. Then, I used Romance along my eye line and smudged it up a bit at the ends. I used my fingers and a stiff brush to blend the two together. The lipstick is NYC Red Suede which I got as a press sample a month or so ago.

I’m not the kind of person to do super crazy makeup looks which is why I don’t have the blue going all the up or all over the lid. (My name is not Mimi!) But I really like this blue as a little accent color. It is a nice, festive look without looking like I’m in costume makeup.

Please have a fun AND SAFE 4th of July. If you have pets, make sure they are secure in your house. Many animals are lost on the 4th of July because they panic and try to escape the house. Keep your furbabies safe by closing windows, doors, gates, and fences. You may want to keep them locked up in a room even though you might usually let them roam free.

We will be medicating one of our three dogs (Kirby, the white one) as he unreasonably panics. We also always stay home because he’s so scared! Poor baby!

NYC Satin Matte Lipstick

{Press Sample}

NYC sent my their new Satin Matte lipsticks to show you! I was sent three shades from the new collection. From left to right, I received Velvety Fuchsia, Smooth Beige, and Red Suede.

NYC Velvety Fuchsia

Velvety Fuchsia is an awesome bright pink. It applied smoothly and makes a really nice statement lip!

NYC Smooth Beige

Smooth Beige is for sure a great nude. I rarely (read: never) do a nude lip so I won’t get a lot of use out of this one, but the texture was lovely and I like the quality of the lipstick.

NYC Red Suede

Red Suede gives you a classic red lip! I’ve actually already worn this one multiple times!!

I would recommend picking at least one of these up if you see them in your store! There’s no need to pay super high prices for lip color when these beauties are available! Thanks again to NYC for sending me the NYC Satin Matte Lipstick collection!

Classic Halloween Stamping!

Today marks the start of the four-day Challenge Your Nail Art challenge! This first prompt is classic orange and black! For this mani, I started with two coats of NYC Animal Instinct which I originally received as a press sample! Then, I used different designs from the Cici&Sisi Halloween Plate and Konad Black to stamp.

I like my ring finger the best. It’s reminiscent of Mexican Day of the Dead designs! I may have to use it again in a more colorful mani to celebrate that holiday!

Three Dark Colors

Today’s mani is for a Crumpet’s Nail Tarts 52 Week Challenge prompt! This week’s prompts are The 80’s and/or three dark colors. I decided just to do the three dark colors prompt. I don’t really like how this turned out….I think the colors are too dark! Oh well! I used NYC Black Elixir, NYC I am not affRED, and NYC NY Princess. All three of these polishes were originally received as a press sample. I decided to do a patchwork mani. I don’t think these colors are different enough for a patchwork.

NYC Midnight Beauty Hate the Light Palette

I have another face of the day for you! This palette was given to me as a press sample by NYC to show you some looks with it! This palette is called NYC Hate the Light and is some great gray colors. Today, I also used the lipstick NYC sent me from the same collection. The lipstick is a dark burgundy called Immortal Vixen.

I only used two of the colors from the set since I have to go to work today and didn’t want an eye that’s too dark. I used the lighter two shades and the illuminator shade.

NYC Midnight Beauty Face of the Day

{Press Sample}

I received this NYC palette as a press sample from NYC so I could show you some makeup looks with it! This palette is the NYC Vampiress palette which is part of their limited edition Halloween collection. I did arm swatches of the shades here.

Today’s look is meant to be a normal, every day look. I know this is more makeup than a lot of people would wear to work, but this is actually something I did wear to work! This is my normal amount of makeup. LOL. I loooove makeup! Keep in mind, however, that I am not a makeup artist. I’m a normal person who actually works in information technology during the day. :) So this is meant to be a look for the normal girl by a normal girl!

I used all four shades shown below. I started with the illuminator all over. I didn’t use the primer because I learned from my swatches that the primer makes the colors super  vibrant. Since I’m doing a daytime look, I wanted them toned down a little on purpose.

Here’s the full face pic! I used the highlighter shade all over. Then, I used the “All Over Lid” shade just in the crease because I’m a rebel like that. Then, I actually blended it toward the corner of the eye so it worked as both my all over lid and my crease shade.

I used NYC black eyeliner as my eyeliner, which I received as a press sample last summer. Then, using an eyeliner brush, I used the black eyeshadow to blend it in.

An Apple as Red as Blood – Nail Art Stamping

So I’ve been having the most difficult time coming up with titles for my posts. I want to make them informative, yet interesting enough that you might click on it. Sometimes, I’ll just use the title of the TV episode I was watching when I was doing the nail art. Today is one of those days!!! I figure that the mani is red and ‘red’ is in the title, so it is still informative, right??? Title Credit: Once Upon a Time, Season 1, Episode 21

For today’s nail art, I started with two coats of NYC Ruby Queen which I originally received as a press sample and swatched for you here. It is a gorgeous ruby red jelly packed with red glitters. Then, I picked a design off my Cici&Sisi plate 07 and used Konad Special black to stamp this design on top.  But first, here is Ruby Queen in all her solo glory.

Love is a Crime

Today’s nail art started with two coats of NYC Fashion Queen, which I originally received as a press sample and swatched for you here. I applied two coats of Fashion Queen and once dry, stamping it using Sally Hansen Fuchsia Flare. I picked a design from my Cici&Sisi stamping plate 07. In the pictures, I think it looks like I actually stamped with the gold, which I find interesting. :)

As a reminder, here’s what the beautiful Fashion Queen looks like on her own.

Purple Roses

For today’s nail art, I started with two coats of NYC NY Princess which I originally received as a press sample, which I swatched for you yesterday. Once dry, I used my new (and very awesome) Cici&Sisi Stamping Plate 07. I selected Sally Hansen Purpelling as my stamping polish so that I could achieve a nice two-toned purple look. I can’t state enough how much I enjoy stamping with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polishes!!! I hope you like today’s nail art! :D

First, here’s a reminder of how gorgeous NY Princess is on its own.

#HePicksMyPolish June – Autobot and Decepticons!

Welcome to the June edition of #HePicksMyPolish! As a reminder, this is the challenge where a male in your life (it can be any male) picks 2-3 polishes and you have to use them in a mani! This month, my husband picked Formula X for Sephora and NYC Jacaranda Flower…

“Just the two?”
“Yep! Do you want to know why I picked them?”
“Are you allowed to know?”
LOL. “Yes, I can know.”
“They are the Decepticon and Autobot colors.”

So after I learned why my husband picked these two colors, I decided that I should attempt to do the Decepticon and Autobot logos on my nails. Freehand is hardly my strength, but I gave it the old college try anyway. In case you don’t have them memorized, here’s what those logos look like:
