Maybelline Color Show Denims is an old collection where the colors are meant to resemble denim. This is Denim Dash. It’s a light blue with white shimmers. I put a glossy coat on top which actually reduced the denim effect. I should have left it alone! Either way, it’s a pretty color.
I saw the new Maybelline Vintage Leather Collection at my local Target this weekend. I was curious, so I picked up three of the 10 colors.
Basically, it’s a matte collection with some weird shimmery things meant to ruff it up. After I put on Plush Plum, I decided that I hated it so I’m going to return or sell Mod Moss and Camel. There are about 1,000 better matte nail polishes out there. These ones aren’t even well done! After I got all butthurt about the “holo” collection (aka not holo and totally ugly collection) I don’t even know why I gave a new Maybelline collection a chance. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice….
So for now, I’m pretty much done with any Maybelline special polishes. Their normal cream polishes are fine, but they are totally failing at the trendy, fun stuff.
While shopping for groceries today, I saw a display for the new Maybelline Holographic collection. Being a holo-a-holic, I had to get all five! The colors are Allurig Rose, Bold Gold, Lavender Lustre, Blue Blaze, and Mystic Green.
From left to right: Bold Gold, Lavender Luster, Blue Blaze
From left to right: Mystic Green, Alluring Rose
Alluring Rose is much more duochrome than it is holographic. It’s still pretty, but I don’t think it should be marked as a holo. It shifts from gold to a light rose gold. It reminds me of China Glaze Swanky Silk.
Lavender Lustre: Again, this one is much more duochrome and not at all holographic. I really feel like I’m getting taken for a ride! Maybelline has lost a lot of credibility with me with this collection. This one is light purple…and not even very pretty! It shifts from a weird gray to a light purple.
Bold Gold: This one is a chrome finish…which you’ll notice is not holographic. I’m getting more and more annoyed. The color is actually ok on this one. It’s a good gold. But, with all of these polishes, the finish is such that you can see every tiny flaw on the nails.
Blue Blaze: This one is a duochrome finish (not holographic!!) and shifts from gray to light blue. This one is not very pretty.
Mystic Green: I did not swatch this color. I returned the whole collection to the store, I was that disappointed!!!
Do not buy. In my opinion, there is not a single one worth picking up. Not only are they being FALSELY marketed as holographic, they’re not even pretty colors!!!
If you have great attention to detail, you will have noticed that this is my second post today that is FULL of polish!!! After I got this haul at the grocery store, I came home to discover that the mailman had delivered my May 2013 Julep Maven Upgrade box! To see pics of that, click here.
Back row: Essence Nail Stickers, Essence Dotting Tool, Essence French Tip Guides.
Front row: Revlon Whimsical, Maybelline Blue Blowout, Maybelline Styled Out, L’Oreal Sweet Nothings, Essence Peel Off Base Coat, L’Real New Money, Wet n Wild Bijou Blue, Wet n Wild Night Prowl, Wet n Wild Caribbean Frost, Essence That’s What I Mint!, Essence Off to Miami!
I am very intrigued by this base coat. The idea is that you will be able to peel the polish off later, I guess without needed polish remover. For $3, I thought it was worth the experiment!
It’s raining nail polish in my house today!!! :) :) :)
Here is Maybelline Color Show Magenta Mirage over Sally Hansen Black Out. This is a beautiful magenta that is very vivid and pigmented. I am excited to try it over a lot of different colors.
In other news, my car is having trouble starting. I hate car troubles! It’s one of those problems where you really just feel helpless and stranded! Fingers crossed that the repairs will be inexpensive!
Thanks for stopping by!
