Geometric Nail Art

{Purchased By me}

Today’s nail art is for this week’s “geometric” prompt from the Crumpet’s 52 week pick and mix challenge. I started with three thin coats of Mango Bunny Polish Ninja Bunny. The stamping polish is Mundo de Unas Mexican Pink and the design is from Vivid Lacquer Plate VL034. The pink covered up more of the Ninja Bunny than I would have liked but at least I adore pink!

Here is a plain swatch of Ninja Bunny. It’s a black jelly with small white glitters and white triangles. You can see the white triangle best stuck to the lid. LOL! I guess I can be a little messy! I think I’m going to leave it there. Just for fun.

I’m trying to figure out what sets my blog apart from others – if there is anything at all. I’m always working on trying to improve my photography and hand position. I worry that it gets boring when I do 99% stamping manicures. But that’s also what I enjoy the most and what I’m best at. So, if you have any suggestions or feedback, please let me know! I want you to keep coming here! I enjoy your company. :)

Stamped Marble Nail Art

{Purchased By Me}

Today’s nail art looks a little like a watermarble, but it’s not! It’s a stamp from Vivid Lacquer Plate VL009. The base polish is Nabi Cinnamon. I have no idea where to buy Nabi! I googled it and couldn’t really figure it out! I got this at a polish swap with some local polish girls. The stamping polish is Mundo de Unas Black.

Here’s a plain swatch of Nabi Cinnamon. I needed three coats for this. Application was a little tough and I had to wait for each coat to thoroughly dry so that I didn’t get too much dragging or bald spots. I would be disappointed if I had to pay for this, but for a freebie, it’s not too bad!

I hope you liked today’s stamped marble nail art!

Plaid Stamping Mani

{Purchased By Me}

Today’s mani is not one of my favorites. I started with two coats of Sally Hansen Chic which is from the Patent Gloss collection. Then, I used Mundo de Unas Velvet as my stamping polish. The design is from Vivid Lacquer plate VL015. This is the first time I have not liked a design from VL.  I think it’s a little too messy looking. (And after 10 nails, I know it’s not me.) Also, I think the squares and lines are too big.  I would have loved to double-stamp this design so it looked even more like plaid, but when I double-stamped, it just completely covered up the lavender color.  Another thing I don’t like about this mani is the color combo. I’m really just not feeling it! Good thing I stockpile acetone!!!

Lace Nail Art

{Purchased By Me}{Affiliate Links}

Hello! I hope you’re doing awesome today! For this mani, I started with three coats of Superchic Lacquer Witches Agenda for Uberness. Then, I used Vivid Lacquer Plate VL 032 which has gorgeous lace and flower designs on it. I used Konad White as my stamping polish. I’m really happy with how this one turned out. The lines are nice and crisp. Even the fully colored in flower looks nice. There is a tiny bit of smudging near my tip on the accent nail, but I’m hoping you won’t notice…

I’m really looking forward to this next week. I only have to work one day which means I’ll have lots and lots of time to get ahead on manicures! I might even try to do another watermarble…we’ll see where the wind takes me!

Holiday Argyle Stamping

{Purchased By Me}{Affiliate Links}

Merry Christmas!! For this mani, I started with three coats of Pretty Serious Glitz & Glam. Pretty Serious is quickly becoming one of my favorite indie brands. Then, I used Vivid Lacquer plate 010 for its super fun argyle design. My stamping polish was Konad Red. There is just something about red and gold that screams ‘holidays’ to me. And if it’s not screaming that, it’s screaming ‘high school’ because red and gold were also my high school colors!

I wish you and all your loved ones a very Merry Christmas from my keyboard to yours.

This is Kirby! Lena’s in the background waiting for food to drop on the ground, and then she’ll pounce!

Christmas Sweater (?) Nail Art

{Purchased By Me}

This mani is a twist on the traditional Christmas sweater – both with the colors and the pattern!! I started with two coats of Sally Hansen Plush which is from their new velvet textures collection. Then, I used a design from Vivid Lacquer plate VL 035 which is full of sweater designs. I don’t know if this counts as Christmas sweater nail art…if anything, it’s Halloween or Valentine’s Day! But here it is and you get to see it today. I stamped with Sally Hansen Rapid Red from their Insta-Dri line. I love stamping with SH Insta-Dris because they are easy to find and quite reliable in their performance.

Raindrops Nail Art

{Press Sample}{Affiliate Links}

This mani starts with two coats of Mango Bunny Polish  Midnight Bunny, which I originally received as a press sample. Then, I used Konad White to stamp this raindrops design from Vivid Lacquer Plate VL006. I love the rain, which is one of the many reasons why I love living in the Pacific North West.

I like how I can see the star glitters from Midnight Bunny poking through!!! It’s like it’s raining on a starry night. Have you ever seen a rainstorm happen when it’s still sunny? (Yes, that happens!) Well, this must be the night version of it!

Snowy Sweater Nail Art

{Affiliate Links}

It’s still freezing here so I’ve been wishing I had some nice warm sweaters I could wear. But I want ones that are super girly so that they fit my style! Since I don’t own anything like that, I can at least do girly sweater nail art, right?! The only problem is now  I really want a sweater that looks like this! Haha!!

I started with three coats of Glitter Daze That’s So Fetch from her Mean Girls collection. I won it in a giveaway from the Digital Dozen! This is a gorgeous light pink holo. I did three coats because I wanted to ensure my visible nail line was all covered up.

Once dry (I used Simply Swift top coat from to speed things along), I used Vivid Lacquer plate VL035 which has a lovely snowflake sweater design on it. I used Konad white to stamp. I love how it turned out!

Colorful Butterfly Wings Nail Art

{Purchased by Me}{Affiliate Links}

Today’s nail art was a bit of an experiment in my coloring skills. I wanted to use the Butterfly Wings image from Vivid Lacquer Plate VL004 but I wanted the blank spots to be filled in. So whilst watching Doctor Who, I decided to do a little polish color to make some colorful butterfly wings nail art!

I started with two coats of Essence Pearls are a Girl’s Best Friend which is from the Aquatix Collection. Then, I used Konad Black to stamp the design from the plate. Then, I used different colors from the Aquatix collection to fill in the spaces and dot in the empty spaces as well. I mostly like how this turned out. Even though I was very careful, the polish still bled over the black a little. The only way to really prevent this is to be even more careful (not sure that was possible) or to make a decal instead of doing it straight on the nail.

Wild Animal Nail Art Challenge

{Purchased By Me}{Affiliate Links}

Today’s nail art is for this week’s Crumpet’s Nail Tarts challenge. The two prompts for this week are Wild Animals and/or yellow. This post just addresses the wild animals prompt. :) I started with two coats of Essence Finding Dori which is from the new Aquatix Collection. Then, I used Konad Black and Vivid Lacquer Plate VL010 to stamp this leopard (or cheetah???) print on top. Once that was dry, I used scotch tape for taping off the tips and painted Sephora Formula X Dark Matter on the tips. Lastly, I used my trusty striping tape to line the edge and give it a finished look.

Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds Nail Art

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! Today’s prompt from the Challenge Your Nail Art Facebook group is “Halloween TV or Movie Inspired”. I love old horror movies and Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds is one of my favorites. To me, this is such a scary movie because nothing very supernatural happens. Birds flock en mass….which happens in real life….and they attack people….which happens in real life. Seriously. Don’t ever walk by a crow’s nest. Those birds will absolutely attack you. So Alfred Hitchcock takes something that happens naturally in life and then just expands it a little. And it becomes terrifying. I still can’t see a power line full of birds without thinking of this movie! Genius!

For this nail art, I started with two coats of China Glaze But of Corpse which I originally received as a press sample. Then, I used Konad Black and Vivid Lacquer plate VL018 to stamp the designs.

Gold Roses

I have a simple nail for you today. I started with two coats of OPI 4 in the Morning which is my favorite black ever. Then, I used Vivid Lacquer plate VL032 which has gorgeous lacey rose designs on it. My stamping polish is OPI Love.Angel.Music.Baby. Both OPI polishes are from the Gwen Stefani collection released earlier this year. I’m still seeing some of these on clearance at Sally’s so if you haven’t gotten them yet, keep an eye out!

Konad vs. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri

On my Facebook page, a fan asked me to compare the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri to Konad. She reported that she noticed the SH was much lighter than Konad and asked if that’s normal. I decided to do a side-by-side comparison to find out!

Konad is a special polish made specifically for stamping. In fact, they don’t even recommend using it as a regular painting polish (per their online instructions). I buy mine on

Sally Hansen is found in drugstores. Only recently did SH release a black and a white Insta-Dri, and even then, it’s still limited edition. SH Insta-Dri is notorious for being good for stamping so when I saw the display, I bought all of them!

The design show is from Vivid Lacquer plate 036.

Let’s see how they compare side-by-side:

I didn’t even bother labeling the nails because I think the difference is clear. The SH is much lighter than the Konad.  I think the crispness is about equal.

So why buy one over the other? If you’re looking for a quick fix, SH is the way to go. It’s easy to find (except for limited edition colors) and it’s inexpensive. If you really want the opaqueness and you can wait a week or so for shipping, then Konad is the right choice for you. You have to order online, but that is worth it for the right product.

Me? I use both. Usually which one I pick just depends on which one is closer! LOL! You really can’t go wrong. If you didn’t have them side-by-side, you wouldn’t know how different they are.

Halloween Nail Art – Sweater Weather

I’ve been waiting and waiting for Fall to get here so I could use my Vivid Lacquer plate VL025 which has a ton of cute sweater patterns on it! I started with two coats of Pistol Polish Fire Away which is a brownish orange crelly. Then, I used Bundle Monster Black to stamp the design on top. Lastly, no sweater is complete without buttons! I have a lot of rhinestones left from my press sample from the Born Pretty Store! I originally reviewed the nail art studs for you here.

Sea Creatures Nail Art for Challenge Your Nail Art!

It’s time for another round of “Challenge Your Nail Art“. Today’s prompt is “sea creatures”. I have been neglecting my Vivid Lacquer VL023 stamping plate which has mermaids on it, so I couldn’t NOT use it on this challenge! :D I started with two coats of OPI Blue Chips which is an amazing sea blue with holographic shimmers. I got it at TJ Maxx and it was a major score! Once dry, I used Color Club Harp On It to stamp some mermaids and then dotted some of it around. When the mermaids didn’t show up over the blue, I used Konad Special White and it showed up much better. I thought the art needed a little more flair so I grabbed MoYou London Fairytale Plate 06 to stamp some starfish, some bubbles, and some fish around. I like how it turned out!

FingerFood Theme Buffet – Music Nail Art!

It’s time for another edition of the FingerFood Theme Buffet Challenge! This week’s theme is “music”. This was a perfect one since I own the perfect Vivid Lacquer stamping plate, number VL015. I started with two coats of China Glaze New Birth, from the new Giver collection. Then, I sponged on a gradient using China Glaze Capacity to See Beyond. Once dry, I used a pink stamping polish (which is a prototype of a FB friend) and Vivid Lacquer plate VL05 to stamp on music themed art. Hope you like it!

Fingerfood’s Theme Buffet – Science and Technology!

I’m very excited about today’s post! It’s for Fingerfood’s Theme Buffet and the theme for this week is science and technology! I’m a huge geek. And I don’t mean that I just wear glasses and like to read. I mean I wear a smart watch. Yep. A super awesome smart watch by Samsung.

That is just how I roll. And of course by now you’ve figured out that I’m wildly obsessed with Doctor Who. But it doesn’t stop there! I love the Twilight Zone, the original Doctor Who, gadgets, and gizmos, a plenty. My day job is also very technology heavy – writing report coding, investigating data problems, etc. So this theme really speaks to me. I wish my stamping was better, but I did this mani on a 96 degree day so my patience was a minimum!!!  I started with three thin coats of Sally Hansen Ivy League. Here’s a plain swatch of that gem:

Vivid Lacquer Buffy Collection for GOT

Hi, everyone! It’s Thursday and today’s prompt for Golden Oldies Thursday is “Over a White Base”. I have been wanting to dust of my Vivid Lacquer Buffy the Vampire Slayer collection for a while now, so I grabbed Vivid Lacquer It Must Be Bunnies! and Vivid Lacquer Bored Now.  I did a very simple mani for this, a double taped sideways french. It’s just too hot to think of anything more complicated! :D I hope you like it! I did have a few formula issues with It Must Be Bunnies. I don’t remember this from when it was new, so I either don’t remember it well or something has happened to it as it’s gathered dust. Before I try it next, I’m going to put a couple drops of thinner in there to see if that livens it up a little.

Hot Pink Hearts Stamping

Are you ever just super in the mood for a hot pink mani? Yeah, me too! Like all the time! :P This mani features Salon Perfect Fired Up Fuchsia which I preciously received as a press sample for this post. I did do two coats of Salon Perfect Sugar Cube first, and then two coats of Fired Up Fuchsia. I used Konad Special Black Polish to stamp a design from Vivid Lacquer plate VL009.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Stamping for Tri-Polish Tuesday!

It’s the last Tuesday in July, can you believe it? This also means that it’s the last tri-polish Tuesday of my favorite color combo ever! This month’s combo for Crumpet’s Nail Tarts is pink, green, and purple. I always gravitate toward my Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Polishes when I want to stamp. I just wish they made a white and a black in this formula! Could someone contact their CEO and let them know that for me? Thanks! This week, I picked Sally Hansen Jade Jump, Sally Hansen Sumac Sonic, and Sally Hansen In a Haze. (In a Haze was originally given to me as a press sample here.) I picked Vivid Lacquer Stamping Plate VL 010 which has a kind of camo-like design on it.

I started with one (yes, ONE!) coat of Jade Jump and then mixed Sumac Sonic and In A Haze together on the plate’s design. This is what transpired. Let me know what you think in the  comments at the bottom!

Doctor Who Nail Art Second Regeneration

I just can’t get enough Doctor Who nail art! When I did my first mani, found here, Fixin to Faff told me there were MORE Doctor Who Stamping Plates! Um….I obviously had to buy them. My original first generation Doctor Who nail art used one from My Online Shop (it’s not mine, that’s the name of the shop :P) She actually sells two with Doctor Who images on it so I bought that and the one made by Vivid Lacquer.

I started with two coats of Emerald & Ash Cherenkov Radiation which I bough with a gift card I won from Polished Pathology. (BTW, second only to Bliss Kiss Pure Nail Oil, I LOVE Emerald & Ash Cuticle Oils. Especially the one called Monkey Farts.) Then, I used Sally Hansen Liquid Gold to stamp the Cyberman and Sally Hansen Sterling Silver to stamp the rest. I hope you like it! :)

Dog Nail Art

Anyone who knows me knows that the only thing I’m crazier about than nail polish is dogs. So, when Vivid Lacquer came out with plate VL27, I had to get it right away. This plate has some cay and bird stuff on it, too, just in case you’re not a crazy dog lady like me. :) I started with two coats of OPI Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI? (plain swatch at end of post) and then I used Konad Special Black to stamp dog bones, dogs, and paw prints on my nails! Do you have any furbabies??

Neon Pop Flower Decals!

The Salon Perfect Neon Pop collection was sent to me as a press sample to play around with – and boy is it fun! You can see all my swatches here. I decided to try my hand (pun not intended) at decals again since my first attempt (here) wasn’t that wonderful. Unfortunately, this one isn’t wonderful either! I keep smearing it. This time, the smears happened when I put on my final top coat. I used KB Shimmer Clearly On Top and I did float the brush, so I don’t know what happened! //shrug

In other news, I recently found out that the vast majority of the original Doctor Who was lost in a fire at BBC. This is heartbreaking! I didn’t know this and know I feel extremely saddened by it! I should probably buy myself some polish to make me feel better, right?

I used a number of the Salon Perfect Neon Pop Collection for this mani: Yowza Yellow, Traffic Cone, Tickled Pink, and Haute Pink. I also used Plum Sorbet with is part of their regular line. The stamping plate was Vivid Lacquer VL 008. This flower design is one of my favorite designs ever. I use it all the time. I don’t usually use the same design over and over again because I don’t want to bore you, dear reader. But in this case, who can ever get bored with flowers! :P

If you liked today’s post, it would be awesome if you shared it with your friends, enemies, frenemies, or even strangers. Or strange people you know. You can use any one of the sharing options below!

Vivid Lacquer Stamping for GOT – Yellow

Happy Thursday, everyone! Boy oh boy has it been hot here!!! Today’s prompt is yellow. I have to be honest, I totally hate yellow polish. In my collection of 750, I have like 5 yellow polishes. Seriously. I just can’t stand it. One yellow polish that I can stand is Nicole by OPI Lemon Lolly from last year’s Gumdrops collection. This is a sparkly textured yellow. I love it because it’s sparkly. :D I started with two coats of Lemon Lolly.

Decal Nail Art for Tri-Polish Tuesday

For this week’s Tri-Polish Tuesday challenge, I decided to give homemade decals another go. If you’re not familiar with this technique, basically you take a stamping plate, (I picked Vivid Lacquer VL022), and stamp it on a stamper like always (I use Wistonia), but instead of then putting it on your nails, you let it dry on the stamper. Once dry (and really – wait until it’s dry. You ‘ll see my mistake below), then you color in the image however you want. Then let THAT dry and top with a topcoat. Once it’s dry (again!) then right next to the edge of the design, press your nail into the stamper head. The image should start to lift off the stamper. Gently pull it off. Then, paint your nails one coat of color or basecoat or something so they’re wet. Place the decal on your nail. Use cuticle nippers to trim the excess and a brush dipped in acetone for fine-tuning. Easy-peasy! Perhaps I should film it someday?? But there are for sure a lot of great tutorials on You Tube for this.

Polishes used:
