FAQ’s: How to Care for your Nails and Paint them Every Day

I frequently get asked how I’m able to paint my nails every day. People are always worried about how much time it takes and the damage it might be doing to my nails.

Well there are easy answers to both those problems!! I was explaining all this to a colleague at work and she said, “You just changed my life.” Now I don’t expect this post will change everyone’s actual LIFE, but I do hope it will help as you’re getting into nail art and nail care.

First, let’s start off with how to take care of your nails. You could be the best nail artist in the world, but if your nails and cuticles are in bad shape, nothing is going to look good. There are three easy, peasy ways to make sure your nails are in tip-top shape!

1.) Eat right. I know, I know. This advice is given as a solution to nearly every problem in the world. But it’s so true! If your body is starved for proper nutrients, it’s not going to invest energy into building strong nails. It’s going to just try and stay alive! Eating a well balanced diet with good protein and lots of fruits and vegetables WILL make your nails healthier in the long run.

2.) Moisturize your cuticles! It’s no surprise that my favorite product is Bliss Kiss Pure Nail Oil. It’s inexpensive relative to other brands, smells great, is an indie product, and the owner is super nice. That’s all win-win-win! To see what a huge difference it made for me, click here. There are many other products on the market that also do a good job, but I like Bliss Kiss Pure Nail Oil The key is to find something that works well for you and then, use it often!

3.) Nails are jewels, not tools. Don’t use your nails to pick at things or use them as tools. Protect them! If you’re serious about keeping them long and healthy, you need to do right by them. Wear gloves when washing the dishes or cleaning. Don’t use them to pry things open!

Now, let’s talk about actually painting your nails on a daily basis. People are always so impressed that I paint my nails every night. The thing is, the entire process barely takes me over a half hour! That’s it! That includes removing the old polish, painting, AND drying time!! Wowza! That really is no time at all! There is ONE product that makes this quickness possible: An excellent top coat. I use HK Girl Top Coat. You can buy it here.

That’s it. In my experience, the base coat and type of polish doesn’t make that big of a difference. The top coat is what really makes a mani dry fast or not. There are others on the marked such as Seche Vite, that can also work well. My only complaint with Seche Vite is that I would get terrible tip wear (where the polish retracts from the tip of your nail) within a few hours. I don’t experience that with HK Girl, so it’s my few favorite.

Hopefully this post answered a few of your questions! If you have any more, please feel free to ask in the comments! I promise I read them all! :D

Pure Nail Oil 30 Day Follow-Up

Last month, I did a review on Pure Nail Oil. I did the suggested three day “go naked” challenge. You can read more about that by clicking here.

I wanted to give a follow-up on how much I’ve been liking this product! My cuticles and nails have never looked better.

Here is the picture I can’t keep staring at. This is my ‘before’ picture from the three day challenge. I can’t believe how dry, peeling, and unhealthy my cuticles look.

Here is the same hand, about a month later. The cuticles are happy, healthy and moisturized!

I am soooo happy with this product! I don’t feel like I need any other cuticle oil!

Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS+

I received Osis+ Dust It Texture Mattifying Powder free of charge from Influester in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Dust It Powder offers light control of hair, a soft matte effect, control and separation, and natural feel. From the web: OSiS+ Dust It is a multi purpose mattifying powder that adds incredible root lift, texture and control. Perfect for creating thicker, fuller-looking hair.

You are supposed to apply it to dry hair.

First, let me say that I really hate having product in my hair. It’s taken me over a year, but I finally trained my hair dresser to not put styling products in my hair after I get it cut. So, needless to say, I was already prepared to hate this. My hair is already dry and brittle (bleach blonde shout out!) so the thought of a mattifying powder scared me a little.

Pushing through my hesitation, I sprinkled the powder around my crown. This is where I want more texture and volume.

You can see it looks like dandruff! LOL!

Then, using my fingers, I pushed my roots up everywhere I put the powder. You can see it holds pretty well.
After that, I smoothed down my hair a bit so I didn’t look like a freak!

Overall, I think it gives nice volume and texture. You can re-lift your roots throughout the day as your hair flattens out.

You *can* feel it in your hair, though. It does not feel “natural” like the box claims. It feels like there’s crap in your hair–which is why I hate hair products. I like the way it looks but I hate the way it feels.

The final verdict is that I will probably only use this on special occasions and I’ll remain product-less on normal days. If the feel of product in your hair doesn’t bother you, then I surely think you should try this product out! It works very well! Pure Nail Oil Three Day Go Naked Challenge and Review

Throughout my travels on the internet, I discovered myblisskiss.com. Anna is touting the wonders of her Pure Nail Oil, so I thought I would do the three day hydration challenge that she describes on her site. (Yes. A scary thought: Going three days without polish!!!)

I took before and after shots for you to see what happened.

Left hand:

Before
Just 3 days after

Right hand:

Before
Just 3 days later
The left picture is before and the right picture is after. Look at the horrid shape my right hand’s cuticles are in! Egads! That’s embarrassing!
Here’s what I notice: The whites of my nails look slightly whiter and just look healthier in general. The cuticles look better, especially on my right hand. This is most apparent on my pinkie nail. Three days ago, that cuticle was painful! Now it’s getting back to a healthy state.
The verdict: I will continue to use Pure Nail Oil. I think it’s definitely worth looking in to as your go-to nail and cuticle oil.
What do you think? Can you see a difference in my before and after shots? Have you tried Pure Nail Oil?

Little Black Bag!!!!

I looooove  Little Black Bag. If you followed me over from my old blog, you will know how much awesome stuff I have received for little cost. I will not go into the mechanics of the site here because there are 8 gajillion blogs that have already done that. If you really want me to, please post a comment and I will make a special post on my trading strategy. Otherwise, I’ll just show you my beautiful loot!!

Here’s the haul all together. This time, I got 9 items. One item (The Betsey Johnson necklace) I purchased as an add-on during their holiday sale.

First, silhouette jewelry stand. On the website, it looked like it was mesh wire but it’s actually solid metal that looks very antique. It is beautiful!

Next, here’s the Betsey Johnson necklace I bought during the sale. It’s gorgeous! Look how shiny! I have the bracelet that matches but I probably won’t wear them together. That would be a little too matchy-matchy for me.

Robert Rose earrings. This are really pretty chandelier  earring that will go with almost anything. I think I could wear them with jeans or dress them up for a night out!

Rain draped necklace…this thing is huge! I put my hand next to it so you could see just how big it is! Even though it’s gigantic, I think it’s really pretty and it will probably be the first item I wear out of this whole lot.

Michael Marcus lipstick. I didn’t really want this but trading was ending so I got it. The only reason I didn’t want it was because I have over 100 lip products and 90% of them are in the red family. I will say, however, that this is a great color on me and appears like it could be a lot longer lasting than some of the other products I use.

Nail polish!!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Most people try and get rid of polish if it’s in their bag, but I try and grab it up. On the left is Michael Marcus Tart which is a red with gold shimmer. In the middle is ncLA Hello I Love You which is more purple in person than the picture would show. Finally,  on the left we have ncLA Call Me For the After Party which is a great dark blue. You can look forward to seeing swatches of these on the blog in the days to come.

And now the head liner! An Elise Hopes Satchel. This is a great purse. It’s super cute and has a ton of pockets. There are even some pockets I didn’t photograph because I didn’t even find them until after I was transferring all my stuff from my old purse to this one!

I am extremely happy with my Little Black Bag this go-around! A lot of girls will do a bag monthly but it’s a tad too time consuming for me. I’ll probably do another one in April.
