Tri-Polish Tuesday: Purple, Green, and Red

Happy Tuesday, Internet! I hope your day is going splendidly. This month’s Tri-Polish Challenge from Crumpet’s Nail Tarts is to use Red, Purple, and Green in a single mani. I will be attempting to use these three colors every Tuesday in May for my mani. Wish me luck!

This week, I chose Sally Hansen Lively Lilac, Sally Hansen Mint Sprint, and Konad Special Red. I picked up a few of the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri line at Target recently because word on the internet is that they stamp well. They are usually one-coaters and there are quite inexpensive. I found the rumors of their stamping ability to be completely true! I’m so happy! I will certainly be picking up a lot more of this line! For this stamping design, I grabbed Pueen Plate 56.

GOT: Flowers Nail Art

Welcome to Thursday! Or, as I like to call it, “Friday Eve”!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND Happy May! Summer is almost here!

Thursday means it’s time for Golden Oldies Thursday from the Crumpet’s Nail Tarts challenge. This week’s prompt is “flowers”. I was drawn to my old China Glaze Hunger Games collection which came out two years ago and I haven’t used since! Then, I wanted to add a stem so I grabbed the green holo from last year’s hologlam collection.

Polishes Used:
China Glaze Smoke and Ashes
China Glaze Dress Me Up
China Glaze OMG a UFO
Julep Sally (didn’t have any old, yellow China Glaze polishes! LOL!)

I used a dotting tool for the petals in pollen and then I used a nail art brush to freehand the stems with OMG a UFO. I hope you like my flowers nail art!

He Picks My Polish April 2014

It’s time for one of my favorite challenges! This is the He Picks My Polish challenge. The concept is you have a male in your life pick 2-3 polishes and you have to use them in nail art. My “he” is my darling and wonderful husband. This month, he picked all Julep! Julep Sunny, Julep Tatum, and Julep Ginger. To be honest, I had no idea what to do with these! So I decided to try my hand at some water marbling. Turns out, these polishes are horrid for marbling. They just fizzle out in the water. When I saw that happening, I put on two coats of Sally Hansen White Beaches to help the colors show. It helped a little, but this mani is still a total disaster! Shhh…Don’t tell my husband! ;)

Since I have it available, here’s a swatch of Sally Hansen White Beaches first:

And now  for the mani fail! Avert your eyes if scary things scare you!

Put a Bow on it!

It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for a tri-polish mani! This will be the last one in April using the pink, yellow, and blue prompt. I started with two coats of Color Club Miss Bliss and then used my small dotting tool to put on Essie Lots of Lux. Finally, I used some of my Shany fimo cane nail art to apply the bows. I found those bows on Amazon here. I know technically, they’re not polish but I thought I could sneak one through for the last week in April. :D

Lacquer Legion Glam

This month’s theme for the Lacquer Legion challenge is “glam”. Last month’s was “Lucky” and I totally forgot to do it! Oops! The nice thing about the Lacquer Legion prompts is that you can interpret them any way you want.

When I think of glam, I think of red and sparkles. So, for this mani, I started with two coats of Orly Sweet Tart which is an apple red jelly polish. Then, I did one coat of Vivid Lacquer Step Away From the Tinsel, another coat of Sweet Tart, and another coat of Tinsel. Finally, I added a row of silver rhinestones down the center of each nail.

Look for #llglam on social media to see other mani’s from this challenge!

The BadA$$ Mani Prompt

This week, the Adventures in Stamping challenge is to create a mani inspired by “BadA$$”. I immediately went to my MoYou Rebel Collection plate, of course! I spotted Marilyn Monroe on there and totally wanted to stamp her face on my nails. :) She might not be who you immediately think of when you think of a BadA$$ but to me, I think she was. To complement her image, I chose Bundle Monster Plate 21 which has a cherry design. You’ll see the one of the things I don’t like about BM is that the images aren’t big enough for my nails. :(

I used Essence Super, Man! as my base color. Then I used Konad Special Black and Special Red for stamping.

GOT: Tropical Mani

Happy Thursday, everyone! Since it’s Thursday, it means it’s time for more Golden Oldies! Today we have Julep Mischa. I don’t even know how long I’ve owned her, but it’s at least more than a year! The prompt for this week is “Tropical”. This was a hard one for me because hardly any of my oldies are tropical colors. When I think tropical, I think orange and yellow so that’s why I picked Mischa. Then, I picked out some kiwi nail decorations to make it look delicious. This style of nail art is super simple; no skill involved!

Tri-Polish Tuesday: Psychedelic

Happy Tuesday! This mani is part of the tri-polish challenge. This month’s theme is blue, pink, and yellow! For this week’s mani, I went with Mentality Gumdrop, Sally Hansen Fuchsia Power, and Julep Charlie along with Pueen Plate 62.

I started with two coats of Mentality Gumdrop. Here’s a swatch of Gumdrop all on its own.Mentality-Gumdrop Continue reading “Tri-Polish Tuesday: Psychedelic”

Tri-Polish Tuesday: Moving Day

This mani is for the April tri-polish challenge. This month’s color choices are pink, blue, and yellow. This has been tough for me because it’s hard to get blue and yellow together without making it look like a sports’ team mani! :P

For this mani, I used Andrea’s Choice Circus Somersault (yellow) and Andrea’s Choice Circus Ringmaster (pink) for a sponged gradient. The pink ended up looking a little orange over the yellow I’m still counting it for this challenge because technically it is a pink polish! LOL! Then, I used some striping tape and Orly Sweet Peacock over it. I Love, Love, Love Orly Sweet Peacock. It’s a gorgeous and deep metallic blue. So pretty! And this mani is the end result.

Then, on a whim, I applied a matte top coat over the mani and I just love what happened!!!

Why did I call this post “Moving Day”? Well…because that’s the episode of “How I Met Your Mother” I was watching while I was working on this post! LOL! I can’t think of creative names for my posts and “Gradient Mani” seemed a little too boring. :P

Stamping Nail Art – Green With Envy

Today’s mani is for the Adventures in Stamping Challenge. This week’s theme is “stamping over green”. You can see my mani from last week here.

I started with two coats of Enchanted Polish March 2014. You can see plain swatches of this beauty in this post. It was tough to find a polish to go with this one that wouldn’t make it look like a sport’s team combo! LOL! That basically meant blue and orange were out! I picked out brown. Specifically, China Glaze Mahogany Magic. I selected Pueen Plate 65 because it had some lovely vine designs on it. This was the result.

GOT: Coral Striping Tape Nail Art

It’s time for another edition of Golden Oldies Thursday! The premise is that you have to use a polish that you’ve owned for over a year. This week’s theme is “Coral”. You can see last week’s mani by clicking here.

Don’t forget to enter my April giveaway by clicking here!

As soon as I started planning this mani, Julep Sarah popped into my head. I’ve owned it for years but haven’t used it in ages–even though it’s one of my favorite corals ever! It’s a lovely jelly with lots of small shimmers in it. I then decided that I haven’t been doing enough striping tape nail art lately, so I taped off some stripes and applied some Nailtini Admiral Perry. I love navy and coral together! What do you think? Do you have a favorite coral polish?

I was thinking about adding text at the bottom of my posts that would contain fun facts about me. I don’t know if anyone will actually read down here or not! I guess there is only one way to find out! When I’m doing my nails, I like to stream TV shows to keep my brain entertained. Right now, I’m rewatching “How I Met Your Mother”. I watched the series finale last week and I was…slightly disappointed. *Spoilers ahead* If you haven’t watched the finale yet, don’t keep reading! You’ve been warned! Ok…so I feel like I was lied to. 1.) The entire series, we kept getting told that Ted was going to end up with the love of his life and we were lead to believe that was the mother. Well…she died. 2.) They spend so much time in season 8 convincing us that Ted and Robin were great together…and that was clearly a lie! Plus, I don’t like how the writers broke them up. 3.) Robin rejected Ted multiple times across all seasons. Why should we suddenly believe that she wants to be with him? Maybe he’s crazy in love with her, but I never got the sense that the feeling was mutual. And for those three reasons, I was disappointed in the finale. :( Did you watch it? What did you think?

MoYou Suki Collection Plate 07

Today’s mani is part of the Adventures in Stamping Sunday Challenge. The challenge this week was ‘pastels’. I selected Essence That’s What I Mint as my stamping polish and it actually stamps pretty well! For my base color, I picked Color Club Endless Summer which is a lovely pastel pink. I selected a MoYou Stamping Plate from the Suki Collection. This is plate 07. I am super duper impressed with the MoYou plates. The images are so crisp and clean! Also, each plate has a ton of different full nail designs you can use. In my mani below, you won’t get a specific Asian feel, but when you look at the plate as a whole, that’s what you see. This is why the MoYou stamping plates are so cool! They have so much versatility!!!

Just look at all the different designs from MoYou Suki Collection Plate 07!!!!!!!!!!

I picked four different designs from the plate for variety on each nail. I like how subtle the stamping is with the pastels.

GOT: Pastels

“GOT” stands for Golden Oldies Thursdays and it was a weekly challenge started by one of my favorite bloggers, The Crumpet. Every Thursday, you pick a polish that you haven’t used in over a year or at least one you’ve owned for more than a year. Then, you follow the week’s theme. This week’s theme is pastels. I decided to go with Essence That’s What I Mint, but I have to admit, I’ve only had if for 11 months. :D I also picked Zoya Megan which I got in a Birchbox ages and ages ago. At least two years ago! So I figured that if you average them out, it still counts.

Since I’m not feeling well at all :( , I decided to do something extremely simple. I started with two coats of Essence That’s What I Mint and then dotted Zoya Megan on the tips for a funky, easy french mani.

Adventures in Stamping Challenge: Under the Sea

This week’s Adventures in Stamping Challenge theme is Under the Sea. I had a trouble with this theme because I don’t have a single stamping plate with ocean images!!! Ok, that’s not exactly true. I have one with an anchor, but it didn’t look right. Therefore, I decided to do a little bit of an abstract interpretation of the theme.

I started with three coats of Emily de Molly Oceanic Forces (see what I did there?) and then stamped using Konad Nail Art Stamping Polish – Black  and plate Pueen 59. I picked the image that reminded me of waves and underwater plants…in an abstract way. The black didn’t show up that well on the teal, though. :( Hopefully you can see some of the stamping!

First, a plain swatch of Emily de Molly Oceanic Forces because it’s probably my favorite polish of all time and it’s amazing and gorgeous and wonderful.

And now the shots with the actual stamping…see how it’s super hard to see? :( Oh well! I can still admire Emily de Molly Oceanic Forces!!!
