I can’t believe how fast this month is going by! It’s time for another round of He Picks My Polish!! My “he” is my husband who patiently puts up with this little routine. LOL. This month, he picked Julep Ginger, Julep Evangeline, and China Glaze Sci-Fly By. I started with one coat of Ginger and then used a makeup sponge to create a gradient with Evangeline. Once it dried, I used Sci-Fly By to dot blue dots on top. It’s a color combo I never would have picked myself, but that’s the point, isn’t it? Hope you like it at least a little!!
Happy Thursday, dear readers!! Today’s prompt for Golden Oldies Thursday is “Black Base”. It was hard to find one that I haven’t used in a year! I use black all the time! I finally settled on Nicole by OPI A-Nise Treat from last year’s Gumdrops collection. I can actually still find these in stores, so if you like textures, be sure to check out your local drugstore or here on Amazon. As a two-fer I’m also using this mani for the stamping plate challenge I’m participating in. I used Color Club Harp On It for stamping with My Online Shop Plate MJXII. I started with two coats of A-Nise Treat, let it dry, and then stamped. I wish the design had thinner lines so you could see more of the base coat.
I’m very excited about today’s post! It’s for Fingerfood’s Theme Buffet and the theme for this week is science and technology! I’m a huge geek. And I don’t mean that I just wear glasses and like to read. I mean I wear a smart watch. Yep. A super awesome smart watch by Samsung.
That is just how I roll. And of course by now you’ve figured out that I’m wildly obsessed with Doctor Who. But it doesn’t stop there! I love the Twilight Zone, the original Doctor Who, gadgets, and gizmos, a plenty. My day job is also very technology heavy – writing report coding, investigating data problems, etc. So this theme really speaks to me. I wish my stamping was better, but I did this mani on a 96 degree day so my patience was a minimum!!! I started with three thin coats of Sally Hansen Ivy League. Here’s a plain swatch of that gem:
Hi, everyone! It’s Thursday and today’s prompt for Golden Oldies Thursday is “Over a White Base”. I have been wanting to dust of my Vivid Lacquer Buffy the Vampire Slayer collection for a while now, so I grabbed Vivid Lacquer It Must Be Bunnies! and Vivid Lacquer Bored Now. I did a very simple mani for this, a double taped sideways french. It’s just too hot to think of anything more complicated! :D I hope you like it! I did have a few formula issues with It Must Be Bunnies. I don’t remember this from when it was new, so I either don’t remember it well or something has happened to it as it’s gathered dust. Before I try it next, I’m going to put a couple drops of thinner in there to see if that livens it up a little.
I wrote last week about the stamping plate challenge that I’m participating in. The idea is to pick a stamping plate and to use all the images from it by the end of the month. My plate for August is My Online Shop MJ XII which has a TON of images on it. Most mani’s, I’m going to double-up on the images but none of the other ones looked quite right for this one. This one is full of adorable zoo animals! I started with two coats of Essence Girls Just Want to Have Sun! which is from their Beach Cruisers collection. Then, I used Konad special white to stamp the design on top.
I joined a new Facebook challenge group where the concept is that you pick one plate from your stamping plates and you have to use each design by the end of the month. Most people picked theirs at random, but I thought it would be fun to have my husband pick! After much deliberation (and comments about how I had millions of plates), he settles on My Online Shop MJ XII. Funnily enough, this was the first one he looked at…. This is the plate that has a few Doctor Who images on it, so you just might see some more Doctor Who in the near future! This plate also has a lot of images that I don’t know what it’s referring to. I’m sure it’s based off some TV show or fandom thing, but I’m not in the loop. Today’s mani is one of those. I picked the faced and the airplanes images. I have no clue if it’s “from” something, but it’s cute so here we go!
Happy Thursday! This week’s Golden Oldies Thursday prompt is stripes! That pretty much left it open for any color I wanted! I just got my new Julep box, so I started with two coats of Julep Avni. Once she dried, I taped it off with my trusty striping tape and applied a thick layer of Sally Hansen The Real Teal on top. I love the look of purple and teal together! Lastly, I added some rhinestones, but totally should have skipped that step!
It’s Tuesday AND it’s a new month which means it’s time for new colors for tri-polish Tuesday!!!! This month’s prompt is blue. yellow, and red. I started out with two coats of Julep India which is from the new August Wanderlust collection. I think Julep might have tweaked their formula, because this month the polishes aren’t as goopy as they normally are. I’m in a stamping plate challenge as well. The idea there is to pick one stamping plate and then by the end of the month, you have to use all the images from the plate! My plate is MJ XII from My Online Shop. The yellow I used is a prototype from a hopefully soon-to-be indie maker of stamping polishes. The red is Konad Red.
I picked two images for today’s mani. One is a conglomeration of domestic kitchen supplies and the other is lanterns. Because what good housewife doesn’t have good lanterns???

It’s Thursday and you know by now that Thursday means it’s time for Crumpet’s Golden Oldies Thursday! This week’s prompt is glitter. As it turns out, I have a ton of glitter polishes in my collection. The one I chose for today is special because it was given to me by a friend when I had surgery in 2012. I haven’t used it in a long, long time so I was pleased when this prompt came up. The glitter I picked is Sally Hansen Wedding Crasher. It’s a purple jelly base packed full of small purple glitters. I love the look of purple and blue together, so I paired it with Sally Hansen Batbano Blue which is new from the runway collection this year.

Happy Sunday, everyone! This week, the FingerFood Theme Buffet Prompt is Rainbow! I wanted to do a different spin on this, so after some thought, I decided to do a watermarble!

Obviously this is my favorite week ever for Golden Oldies Thursday. If I had to wear one finish for the rest of my life, it would be holo. It’s just so mesmerizing! Is there anyone that doesn’t like a good holo? For this week, I picked some Color Club Halo Hues because it’s been far, far too long since I used them. Today, I have Color Club Beyond which is a black linear holo and Color Club Eternal Beauty which is a lilac linear holo. Of course as soon as I sat down to do this mani, the clouds came out. Thanks, Pacific NW!
I started with two coats of Color Club Eternal Beauty on all nails except my ring finger, where I did two coats of Color Club Beyond. Once it was dry, I taped off the ring finger and put Eternal Beauty on top to create the black lines.

It’s Tuesday, but I don’t care because I have the week off. Woo hoo!!!! I grabbed three Salon Perfect polishes that I received in this press sample. I’ve been hankering for a gradient and it’s tri-polish Tuesday, so I picked Loopy Lime, Tickled Pink, and Plum Sorbet! This is my first time doing a gradient with more than two colors. It’s much harder to blend than a two color mani! The final look for this mani kinda reminds me of strawberries!

For this month’s He Picks My Polish challenge, my husband so lovingly picked Salon Perfect Loopy Lime (which I received as a press sample here) and China Glaze Grass is Lime Greener, from the City Flourish Collection. It’s been a while since I did a watermarble and I thought a two-tone marble could look interesting. I like how this turned out, I just wish my camera was better friends with neon polishes!

Happy Thursday, everyone! Boy oh boy has it been hot here!!! Today’s prompt is yellow. I have to be honest, I totally hate yellow polish. In my collection of 750, I have like 5 yellow polishes. Seriously. I just can’t stand it. One yellow polish that I can stand is Nicole by OPI Lemon Lolly from last year’s Gumdrops collection. This is a sparkly textured yellow. I love it because it’s sparkly. :D I started with two coats of Lemon Lolly.

For this week’s Tri-Polish Tuesday challenge, I decided to give homemade decals another go. If you’re not familiar with this technique, basically you take a stamping plate, (I picked Vivid Lacquer VL022), and stamp it on a stamper like always (I use Wistonia), but instead of then putting it on your nails, you let it dry on the stamper. Once dry (and really – wait until it’s dry. You ‘ll see my mistake below), then you color in the image however you want. Then let THAT dry and top with a topcoat. Once it’s dry (again!) then right next to the edge of the design, press your nail into the stamper head. The image should start to lift off the stamper. Gently pull it off. Then, paint your nails one coat of color or basecoat or something so they’re wet. Place the decal on your nail. Use cuticle nippers to trim the excess and a brush dipped in acetone for fine-tuning. Easy-peasy! Perhaps I should film it someday?? But there are for sure a lot of great tutorials on You Tube for this.
This mani is for the Challenge Your Nail Art challenge! Today’s prompt is video games! As someone who was born in the early 80’s, the first thing that comes to mind is Super Mario Bros, of course! Luckily for me, MoYou’s Rebel Collection Plate 02 has a Mario on it. That means I can bring you some Super Mario Bros. Nail Art! I started with two coats of Zoya Yummy which is my go-to sky blue. Then, I used Konad special red to stamp Mario on. I used Sally Hansen White On to paint the clouds. Zoya Tilda was used for the pipe. Finally, I used my Nailtini stencils as decals for the gold boxes.
I’m taking part in this month’s Challenge Your Nail Art challenge and today’s prompt is fandom!! I’m wildly obsessed with Doctor Who so of course I had to order a special stamping plate to do nail art! I got a plate from My Online Shop on Etsy. This plate was a little more difficult to work with. I don’t know what it is about it, but I had a hard time scraping the excess polish off without ruinion the polish in the design. I don’t know what causes that, but I wanted to point it out.
I started with one coat of Sally Hansen Pacific Blue (the new formula! Not to be confused with the old formula!) and then one coat of Revlon Celestial FX. Once dry, I used Konad Special White to stamp the Doctor Who designs on top. I hope you like it, even if it’s a little crooked! But I was distracted by watching the tv show that inspired this mani. LOL. Let’s just say it’s wibbly wobbly on purpose. ;)
Happy Golden Oldies Thursday! This week’s prompt is lime green. On a related note, I can tell you the INM Out the Door top coat does smear stamped nail art. Yes, I certainly can tell you that. I can also just let you look at the pics of my ruined mani.
This is Formula X for Sephora Radioactive. The formula on this one is not good. It does not level well and was streaky to apply. No wonder I never use it! I then used Vivid Lacquer stamping plate VL012 to put some lizards and froggies on it. Unfortunately, I picked Out the Door as my top coat and it ruined the whole thing. Sigh. #polishproblems
It’s Tuesday again and this month’s tri-polish Tuesday combo is pink, purple, and green. Hip-hip-hooray! It’s been quite a while since I’ve attempted a watermarble, so I decided that is what I needed to do for this week’s challenge. I picked Zoya Rooney, Zoya Tilda, and Zoya Perrie and…………CHINA GLAZE FAIRY DUST!!!
This mani is for the 4th of July obviously. :) It’s also for Fingerfood’s Theme Buffet prompt for Sunday which is “Patriotic”! I’m posting this early so you can view it on the 4th if you like as well. :) Hopefully people outside of the USA can appreciate it as well! I started with two coats of China Glaze Ruby Slipper which is just an amazing polish and I think everyone should own it. After it was dry, I taped off the tips and applied China Glaze Dorothy Who? to make a french mani…which I didn’t realize the irony until I was taking the pictures! LOL! Finally, I used Bundle Monster plate BM21 and Bundle Monster White Stamping polish to create the star designs.
First, we need to look at China Glaze Ruby Pumps in all its glittery gloriousness.
Happy Thursday! Or, as I like to call it, Friday Eve!! This is an extra special Thursday because I have tomorrow off. WOO HOO! This week’s Golden Oldies Thursday prompt is turquoise. At first, I didn’t think I had any polishes that fit but then I realized there were two staring me right in the face. I have been sitting on Color Club Abyss and Color Club Blue-Ming for ages!!!! Quick tangent- I don’t know why it’s called “Blue-Ming”. There is no person on this planet that would call it blue. It is comfortably in the mint green family. Is it just me, or do mis-named polishes really grind your gears??
I started off with two coats of the light green Blue-Ming. After it was dry, I taped it off and painted one generous coat of Abyss. This polish is a touch greener in real life. My camera and this polish are not friends. Finally, I used some fimo cane that I got pre-cut in this set from Amazon to add extra flair.
It’s a new month for the tri-polish Tuesday challenge! I’m glad last month’s is over! :P Those colors were haaard!! This month’s colors are going to be much nicer to me. They are green, pink, and purple. Hooray! There are so many gorgeous mani’s to create with these three colors! I picked three from the China Glaze Sea Goddess collection. This was the collection that got me hooked on glittered texture polishes. (I don’t like non-glitter textures. :P) I picked Tail Me Something (Purple), Teal the Tide Turns (Green), and Shell We Dance (Pink). I decided to do a color block. I think it almost looks like a girly pride flag. I’m a girl! And I’m proud of it!!
This month’s Lacquer Legion theme is On Holiday. For me, the best holidays are ones I get to spend with my husband. He travel a lot (a lot. a lot.) and he doesn’t get a lot of days off. One day he DOES get off is the 4th of July. I did a very obvious 4th of July mani here so I wanted to set aside the red, white, and blue and see what else I could come up with. As I was flipping through my stamping plates, Vivid Lacquer VL015 caught my attention. It has gorgeous fireworks on it! And I’ve never even used them! Egads! So of course that’s what I knew I had to do! Fourth of July fireworks which are perfect because I also see fireworks when I’m with my husband (insert “aawww” sounds here).
I started with two coats of the wonderful and amazing Sally Hansen Black Out. I love Sally Hansen Black Out because it is easy to find, affordable, and reliable! I really can’t say enough good things about Sally Hansen. Because I’m a SH loyalist I also grabbed…you guessed it! My Color Foils! LOL! I am going to use these up if I’m not careful!!! Which would be the worst thing ever because they’re limited edition!!!! I used my Sally Hansen Pink Platinum and Sally Hansen Cobalt Chrome.
This is my second time participating in FingerFood’s Theme Buffet! You can see what I did last time here. This week’s theme is neons! I love the Orly Baked Collection so I grabbed Orly Ablaze and Orly Neon Pink. I have never done a leopard print mani (I know, I know) so I grabbed my trusty Vivid Lacquer plate VL010 which has a great leopard print on it. I started with two coats of Orly Ablaze, waited for it to dry, used Konad Special Black to stamp and….waited for it to dry. :P Then, I taped off angles and painted Orly Neon Heat on top. Finally, I put some black striping tape on the edge. Phew! That was a lot of steps! Good thing I just started Series 4 of Doctor Who so I was thoroughly entertained.
I have a plain swatch of Orly Ablaze here if you’re interested. Here is what it looked like before I started to get fancy.
Welcome to the June edition of #HePicksMyPolish! As a reminder, this is the challenge where a male in your life (it can be any male) picks 2-3 polishes and you have to use them in a mani! This month, my husband picked Formula X for Sephora and NYC Jacaranda Flower…
“Just the two?”
“Yep! Do you want to know why I picked them?”
“Are you allowed to know?”
LOL. “Yes, I can know.”
“They are the Decepticon and Autobot colors.”
So after I learned why my husband picked these two colors, I decided that I should attempt to do the Decepticon and Autobot logos on my nails. Freehand is hardly my strength, but I gave it the old college try anyway. In case you don’t have them memorized, here’s what those logos look like:
