Valentine’s Day Nail Art using Cupcake Polish Elizabeth

{Purchased By Me}

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I thought I would show you some Valentine’s Day nail art I wore this week! It starts with two coats of Cupcake Polish Elizabeth. I used two designs from the pink Cici&Sisi collection (plate10).

Stamped Marble Nail Art

{Purchased By Me}

Today’s nail art looks a little like a watermarble, but it’s not! It’s a stamp from Vivid Lacquer Plate VL009. The base polish is Nabi Cinnamon. I have no idea where to buy Nabi! I googled it and couldn’t really figure it out! I got this at a polish swap with some local polish girls. The stamping polish is Mundo de Unas Black.

Here’s a plain swatch of Nabi Cinnamon. I needed three coats for this. Application was a little tough and I had to wait for each coat to thoroughly dry so that I didn’t get too much dragging or bald spots. I would be disappointed if I had to pay for this, but for a freebie, it’s not too bad!

Pink and Purple Stamping

{Purchased By Me}{Affiliate Links}

Who wants to see more stamping??? Well I hope it’s you because you’re on my blog and I publish a crapload of stamping manicures. This week’s prompt for the Crumpet’s 52 week Pick and Mix Challenge is Purple.  This art starts with three coats of L’Oreal Butterfly Kisses. This is a very sheer pink with tiny shimmers in it. I forgot to take a plain swatch photo of this one, but you can still see the color under the stamping. The stamping design is from Pueen plate 79 and the polish is Mundo de Unas Fantasy. I will never stop warning you about the smell of MDU polishes. It smells like acrylic paint. It fades away after the mani is dry and top coated, but while you’re working, it will be very pungent. I’m willing to overcome the smell since the polishes really do stamp like heaven.

{Press Sample}{Affiliate Links}

I was sent Born Pretty Store Plate BP-L-005 to show you some of the designs and to review for you! You can see all their available image plates here: BornPrettyStore Stamping Image Plates. I picked this plate because I can see myself using pretty much every image on it!!

For this mani, I started with two coats of OPI Rollin’ In Cashmere (plain swatches at the end) and then used Mentality Orange Opaque as my stamping polish.

I either need to take some length off my nails, or I need to start paying more attention to image sizes!! These are exactly the length of my nails so I had to be super careful when lining them up. And as you can see, I didn’t do so great on my middle one!

As usual, I thought the plate was etched quite well and I had no trouble picking up the image. Surprisingly, these images are a little small for my nails. I seriously never thought I would say that! So I had to be extra careful to make sure that I placed it well. You can see on my pointer finger that I was just a tad off. The image length was exactly the length of my nails! I didn’t do it for this mani, but french tips that match the stamping color can cover up errors like this and look really cool at the same time.

Purple Gradient Nail Art with Enchanted Polish Seven Nation Army

{Purchased By Me}{Press Sample}

I’m mixing it up again! What? No stamping today? That’s right! I’m trying really hard not to get stuck in a stamping rut so today you get a gradient topped with glitter! The gradient was done using a makeup sponge with Zoya Megan and Zoya Marnie. (Marnie was originally sent to me as a press sample.) Then, I topped it with one coat of Enchanted Polish Seven Nation Army. SNA is a glitter topper that has tiny black and white glitters and also teeny tiny holo shimmers. It’s really quite stunning in person. No wonder people go gaga over it!

Houndstooth Nail Art using Born Pretty Store Plate BP-L006

{Press Sample}

I was sent Born Pretty Store Plate BP-L-006 to show you some of the designs and to review for you! I picked this plate because I was drawn to the classic designs. You can see all their available image plates here: BornPrettyStore Stamping Image Plates.  For this mani, I wanted to test out the houndstooth designdscI started with two coats of Ellison’s Organics Lots of Planets Have a North which is from her awesome Doctor Who nail polish collection.

houndstooth-stamping-plate

The stamping polish is Mundo de Unas Brick which is perfectly named because it’s a great rusty brown red. The houndstooth design transferred very well. This plate is just barely big enough for my nails. I need to start getting bigger images! I never thought I would say that! LOL. I used to have such struggles growing my nails out!

Enchanted Polish Freeze Machine Stamping

{Purchased By Me}{Affiliate Links}

I managed to snag up Enchanted Polish Freeze Machine in the last EP stock. I’m not a huge fan of glitter toppers, but this one is pretty great. I started with two coats of Andrea’s Choice Circus Tightrope which is a purple neon. Then, I topped it with two coats of EP Freeze Machine. To make it even more interesting, I stamped using Konad Black and a design from Pueen 92. This mani also fits both prompts for this week’s Crumpet’s Nail Tarts 52-week pick and mix challenge! This week’s prompts are flowers and pale blue. Freeze Machine is full of pale blue, iridescent glitters. And later on in the post, I stamped a swirly  flower design on top!

I love all the different shapes and sizes in Freeze Machine. It has some flakies in there which are all the rage right now. But it also has hexes and dots!  I’m pretty sure I see a ton of microshimmer in there, too! Winning!

Are you ever in the mood for just a simple mani? And then you do one and decide to add glitter? Well that’s what happened to me today! In the past, I was sent both these bottles as press samples. I started with two coats of Ellison’s Organics Bigger on the Inside which is a cobalt jelly polish. Then, I did two coats of Sweet Heart Polish DisneyLand or Bust! More Seahawks Nail Art!!

{Purchased By Me}

What? More Seahawks nail art?? Yes! I’m craaaazy for the Hawks. It’s impossible not to be! They’re everywhere around here! I started with three coats of Doctor Lacquer Chlorophyll and then used LA Girl Brilliant Blue for the tips. It’s been a while since I dusted off my dotting tools so I added some accent dots to each nail. Apparently, I’m a little out of practice!!

Woot Woot! Seahawks!!!!

{Purchased By Me}

Get ready!!!!!! You’re going to have an influx of Seahawks nail art from now until (at least!) Sunday! Today’s Super Blue Friday nails start with a three coats of Dollish Polish Toss my Salad which is the perfect neon green for Seahawks nail art! Then, I used my handy striping tape, made a star design (that somewhat resembles the British flag….) and used OPI Wharf!Wharf!Wharf! on top. Wharf is a dark blue textured polish so I did not topcoat it after application.

Blue and Brown Nail Art

{Purchased By Me}{Affiliate Links}

Today’s mani starts with two coats of Zoya Yummy which I’ve had for years and is still one of my favorite blues. I stamped using Mundo de Unas Caramel with a design from Pueen Plate 85.

mdu-caramel

That’s not smudging you see on my middle finger….I accidentally stamped that finger twice!!! Oopsies!!! Lol! Has that ever happened to you? I’m actually a little impressed with myself for how closely it lined up with itself. Apparently, I need to watch a little less Doctor Who when doing nail art and watch my nails a little more!!

blue-and-brown-stamping

Here is a plain swatch of Zoya Yummy so you can see what a pretty blue it is. I have used it a number of times for sky in different nail art designs. It’s the perfect shade of blue for any season, really. My mother in law gave it to me in March 2012 after I’d had major surgery. It was one of my first Zoyas!

Watermarble using the Decals Technique

{Purchased By Me}

Another watermarble!! I know, I know, I did one just a week or so ago! I’m crazy and wanted to do another one. I figure the only way to get awesome at them is to do them over and over again. Just like with stamping, things like this take practice! So for today’s watermarble practice, I used three Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Polishes: Petal Pusher, Mint Sprint, and Plummet. I used the decal technique which I described in my post earlier this month. And of course, at the end, I put some China Glaze Fairy Dust on top!

watermarble-fairy-dust

If you’ve been struggling with watermarbling, I recommend reading my how to make watermarble decals post. It totally changed my watermarbling desires! I hated it before, but now I’m kinda enjoying it. I need to practice the making of the design in the cup part, but otherwise, it’s easy and breezy!

watermarble-polish

One of the keys of watermarbling is having room temperature water. If it’s too cold, then the polish acts like a crazy person.

watermarble-decals

A lot of polishes are good for WM’s. You’ll want to look for polishes that are nearly one-coaters with a traditional mani. Since you can’t really layer it to make it opaque, you want coverage in one coat. If you’re going to use polishes that are more sheer, you can start with a white base coat before applying the decals. That will help the colors pop.

Double Stamping Modern Nail Art

{Purchased By Me}{Affiliate Links}

This is the first double stamping mani I’ve done that I wasn’t embarrassed to show you! I started with two coats of Enchanted Polish Paint it Black. This is certainly a high quality black creme but you could use any of your favorite black polishes for this look. Then, I used Sally Hansen Sterling Silver and Titanium Flush which are both from last year’s color foils collection. I used my firm Konad stamper for these ones since that’s the only stamper that I can get to pick up these polishes. The design is from Pueen Plate 77.

Here is a plain swatch of Enchanted Polish Paint it Black. It went on quite smoothly.

enchanted-polish-paint-it-black

And here’s my design! I have some smudging on my pointer finger. I feel like that’s the finger that always gets smudges. I’m going to have to have a firm talking to that finger to see why it’s always misbehaving.

double-stamping

I like how it looks like fun doodles…but in a controlled way. Yes, I was the kid that only colored in the lines!!

I took a picture before I did the double stamping just in case it looked horrid.  Again, you can see my pointed finger is being a jerk.

Enchanted Polish Djinn in a Bottle Nail Art

{Purchased By Me}

Hellooo!!! Today’s mani starts with two coats of Enchanted Polish Paint it Black. Once dry, I used striping tape and painted Enchanted Polish Djinn in a bottle on top. This mani is also for this week’s Crumpet’s Nail Tarts 52-week pick and mix challenge. This week’s prompt is a non-glitter topper so obviously a holo topper is the right choice!

enchanted-polish-djinn-in-a-bottle

Djinn means genie so really this polish is Genie in a Bottle and boy oh boy is it magical! It turns any polish into a holographic polish! I’ve always wanted a really great black holo so now I have one. :P

Glitter!!! Using OPI 50 Shades of Grey Shine for Me

{Purchased By Me}

Today I’m featuring OPI Shine for Me which is from the OPI 50 Shades of Grey collection. I had actually promised myself that I would not buy anything from this collection because I really hated the book. It wasn’t the subject matter, mind you, it was the horrid writing and zero character development. I promise I’m not trying to offend anyone that likes the book. It is just not for me – not by a long shot! Buuuut when I saw this gorgeous glitter at Sally Beauty, I just needed it!

I started with two coats of Sally Hansen Vinyl which is from the Patent Gloss collection. Then, I used some zig zag nail vinyls and painted Shine For Me on top. Shine For Me has silver and blue glitters but in some light, it also has a purple essence two it.

OPI-Shine-for-me-50-shades-of-grey

This guy is very full-coverage so if you wanted to do a full-on glitter bomb mani, you would not need any base color to support it. Two coats of this, and you’d be shining away!

For this mani, I started with two coats of FingerPaints What a Night from their Bright Lights Big City collection. Then, I used striping tape and painted Sally Hansen Vinyl on top. Vinyl is from the new Patent Gloss collection.

I think it’s important to note that I did not do a final topcoat for this. That is how crazy glossy the Sally Hansen Patent Gloss collection is! I love the creamy black paired with the shimmery duochrome polish. I think it makes the design really pop.

I’m so glad it’s Friday!! This week has been craaaaaaazy and the weekend is a welcome respite. I can’t wait to relax with my darling and wonderful husband and snuggle in the soft fur of my doggies!

Fancy French Tips

{Purchased By Me}{Affiliate Links}

Today’s nail art is a twist on a classic look. I read somewhere that the ‘french’ manicure was actually started in California and the guy called it ‘french’ so that it sounded fancier. He needed a mani that would go well with all costume changes for actresses. If memory serves, I read this in one of the recent issues if Mental Floss magazine. I also read that high heels were originally invented for men so it was easier to ride horses. And then women Bogarted the look. Yay, us!

This french mani starts with two coats of Essence Pearls are a Girl’s Best Friend which is from the awesome Aquatix collection. I used Konad White a design from Pueen 75 to stamp on top. One of my goals for 2015 is to do a little more than just stamping for my nail art, so once this dried, I taped off the tips and used OPI Alpine Snow. I think the essence and the OPI are perfect french tip colors and the stamping adds a little flair and uniqueness.

Stamping Over Texture with Sally Hansen Velvet Texture

{Purchased By Me}{Affiliate Links}

I picked up a few Sally Hansen Velvet Texture polishes from the drugstore a few weeks ago. These are some very lovely mildly textured polishes. This is two coats of Sally Hansen Velveteen stamped with Sally Hansen Presto Pink. The design is from Pueen plate 76. I can’t get enough of pink and black together!

stamping-over-texture-nail-art

I did not use a top coat for this because it would have totally ruined the the velvet effect! I’m pretty happy with how this turned out even if the design does remind me a little of a grandmas couch! :P

Striping Tape Nail Art French Tips

{Purchased By Me}{Affiliate Link}

A little while ago, I swatched the FingerPaints Bright Lights Big City collection for you. The FingerPaints Paint the Town Purple was my least favorite….until I made this mani! Then I really loved it. I used silver striping tape and Sally Hansen Vinyl which is from the Patent Gloss collection.

striping-tape-nail-art-french-tips

There is just something about this that I really like. It’s very much my aesthetic – well, at least when I’m not doing stamping!! The problem with Paint the Town Purple was that visible nail line, even after two generous coats. That was quickly solved with black french tips! I used silver striping tape to give it that added extra edge

Plaid Stamping Mani

{Purchased By Me}

Today’s mani is not one of my favorites. I started with two coats of Sally Hansen Chic which is from the Patent Gloss collection. Then, I used Mundo de Unas Velvet as my stamping polish. The design is from Vivid Lacquer plate VL015. This is the first time I have not liked a design from VL.  I think it’s a little too messy looking. (And after 10 nails, I know it’s not me.) Also, I think the squares and lines are too big.  I would have loved to double-stamp this design so it looked even more like plaid, but when I double-stamped, it just completely covered up the lavender color.  Another thing I don’t like about this mani is the color combo. I’m really just not feeling it! Good thing I stockpile acetone!!!

This first mani starts with the mixed flowers design. The base color is FingerPaints Wild Bikini and the stamping polish is Mundo de Unas Velvet. Konad Black vs Mundo de Unas Black – The Winner May Surprise You

{Purchased By Me}

If you have been in the stamping community for any length of time at all, you’ve heard of both Konad and Mundo de Unas (MDU). MDU is frequently touted as one of the best stamping polishes you can get your hands on. I have been a pretty faithful Konad user, so I thought I would do a side-by-side comparison of the two. I picked a design that had both thin lines and thick areas. I used the same stamper (Messy Mansion Firm) for both polishes. I cleaned both the plate and the stamper in between each use.

Can you figure out which two nails have Konad and which two nails have MDU on them??

Two Tone Green Stamping

{Purchased By Me}{Affiliate Links}

Today’s mani starts with two coats of Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet which is an awesome mint creme. I purchased what I thought was Konad Black on Amazon but it turned out to be Konad Gold Black which reads more like a dark green. I decided to pair the greens together to create a green two-tone stamping mani. The design is from Pueen Plate 81. Unfortunately, the stamping smeared a little when I put topcoat on which made me pretty sad.
