I’ve been keeping a secret!!!!!!!! I was selected to participate in piCture pOlish Blog/Insta Fest 2014!! The prize for 5 winners will be to collaborate on a custom shade. Doesn’t that just sound completely dreamy? This year piCture pOlish teamed up with NailVinyls.com as part of the challenge.
In addition to the two polishes I was to use for the challenge, piCture pOlish also sent me Bette. Let’s take a look at this gem first! I like to think they sent me piCture pOlish Bette because I’m Betty’s Beauty Bombs, but I might be reading too much in to it. :P
Bette is a light, sky blue with holographic shimmers. I did three thin coats here to ensure there was no visible nail line. I’m so thrilled they sent me this one! It’s so gorgeous!
And now for the nail art!!! This year, we were only allowed to use the polishes provided and the nail vinyls. No other art was to be used. (Eg. Gradients. marbling, etc). I really had to think outside the box on this one! Then, one day, I realized that mini chevrons look like teeth of a little monster! So I decided to do some fuzzy little monster nail art. ;)
Step One
Apply your basecoat, of course. Then, paint two coats of piCture pOlish Jade on all fingers except one. Paint two coats of white on the remaining nail.
Step Two
After the polish from step one has dried, apply two of the mini chevron nail vinyls to the nail closely together. These will eventually create the illusion of teeth.
Step Three
Pain piCture pOlish Jade at the top and the bottom. Paint piCture pOlish Wisteria in the middle. Wisteria will give the illusion of the inside of the mouth.
Step Four
While the polish is still wet, carefully pull off the chevrons to reveal the remaining white.
Step Five
Using your white polish, drop a two dots of white near the top of the accent nail. (For ease of use, you could use a dotting tool, but I did not use one in this case.) Then, drop a small dollop of black in the center of the white dollops. And now our little monster can keep an eye on us while we keep working!
Step Six
Lay the nail vinyls at an angle across the nails. I wanted this to look like fuzzy hair coming off our little monster.
Step Seven
Paint a generous amount of piCture pOlish Wisteria over jade and the decals.
Step Eight
While the polish is still wet, pull the decals off. And voila! We have a fuzzy little monster! Now just clean up around your cuticles and any messes you may have made and top it with your favorite top coat!
